La casa non era altrove, era qui da sempre. Pepito è arrivato da una dolce donna anziana che adorava i suoi gatti e ha fatto del suo meglio per prendersi cura di quanti più poteva. Come tanti amanti degli animali sull'isola, è diventata sopraffatta e alla fine non aveva più spazio o risorse per prendersi cura di Pepito e suo fratello. I due cuccioli sono arrivati intorno ai 8-9 settimane – troppo piccoli per unirsi in sicurezza alla nostra colonia di gatti liberi. Invece, sono andati in accoglienza con uno dei nostri volontari, dove Pepito ha subito formato un legame speciale con il loro cane, Luno. I tre sono diventati inseparabili e Pepito ha imparato rapidamente che il mondo poteva essere sia sicuro che amorevole. Il fratello di Pepito è stato adottato, ma Pepito non ha mai trovato una casa tradizionale. Invece, ha trovato qualcosa altrettanto significativo: un posto dove davvero apparteneva. La Cave House è diventata il suo mondo, la sua zona di comfort e la sua famiglia. Anche dopo che la volontaria che lo aveva accolto si è trasferita, Pepito ha scelto di rimanere e fino ad oggi, può ancora essere trovato lì, felicemente a salutare i volontari, chiedendo abbracci e accettando qualsiasi merenda gli venga offerta. Affettuoso, gentile e estremamente carino, Pepito ha toccato i cuori di innumerevoli volontari negli anni. Non ha trovato una casa fuori dal santuario, ma ha creato la sua versione di casa – piena di stabilità, amicizia e amore.

Home wasn’t elsewhere – it was here all along. Pepito came to us from a kind older woman who adored her cats and tried her very best to care for as many as she could. Like so many animal lovers on the island, she became overwhelmed and eventually no longer had the space or resources to care for Pepito and his sibling. The two kittens arrived at around 8–9 weeks old – far too small to safely join our free-roaming cat colony. Instead, they went into foster with one of our volunteers, where Pepito immediately formed a special bond with their dog, Luno. The three became inseparable and Pepito quickly learned that the world could be both safe and loving. Pepito’s sibling was adopted, but Pepito himself never found a traditional home. Instead, he found something just as meaningful: a place where he truly belonged. The Cave House became his world, his comfort zone, and his family. Even after the volunteer who fostered him moved on, Pepito chose to stay and to this day, he can still be found there, happily greeting volunteers, asking for cuddles, and accepting any treats he’s offered. Affectionate, gentle, and endlessly charming, Pepito has touched the hearts of countless volunteers over the years. He may not have found a home outside of the sanctuary, but he has created his own version of home – one filled with stability, friendship, and love.
