Santiago è stato lasciato presso uno dei nostri canili partner insieme a 4 galgos ma il suo cacciatore che non aveva più bisogno di loro. Una storia regolare in Spagna purtroppo. Questo è successo nel mese di ottobre 2025 e lui è stato al rifugio da allora. Siamo andati in febbraio e quando eravamo fuori dalla sua gabbia, è venuto subito verso le sbarre per vederci. Quando è stato lasciato fuori, era un po' più timido, si teneva lontano da noi ma era molto curioso quando avevamo degli snack e faceva molti sforzi per essere coraggioso. È venuto da noi ed è riuscito a prendere alcuni snack, questo è stato magnifico considerando che eravamo stranieri. Spesso cerchiamo questa tendenza curiosa nei cani nervosi: è un buon indicatore che si svilupperanno relativamente velocemente in una casa quando avranno molta interazione umana tutti i giorni. Ha avuto un po' di pratica nel camminare con la guida intorno all'area del canile e cammina molto bene senza tirare. Fuori, nel grande mondo aperto, potrebbe essere un po' più nervoso e probabilmente avrà bisogno di un po' di pratica. Santiago è buono con gli altri cani e se un altro cane gli desse un po' di fiducia, potrebbe vivere come unico cane per un adoptatore paziente. Non è stato testato con i gatti ma ci sono gatti nel rifugio, quindi questo può essere organizzato. Santiago sarà castrato, vaccinato e testerà negativo per tutte le malattie mediterranee. Santiago was dropped off to one of our partner kennels along with 4 galgos but his hunter who no longer had any use for them. A regular story in Spain unfortunately. That was back in October 2025 and he’s been at the shelter since then. We visited in February and when we were outside his kennel, he came right up to the bars to see us. When he was let out, he was a little more shy, keeping clear of us but he was very curious when we had treats and was trying desperately hard to be brave. He came up to us and was able to take some treats which was brilliant considering we were complete strangers. We often look for that curious streak in the nervous pods - its a good indicator that they’ll progress relatively quickly in a home when they have much more human interaction on a daily basis. He has had a bit of practice walking on a lead around the kennel area and walks very nicely without pulling. Out and about in the big wide world, he might be a little more nervous so will likely need some practice. Santiago is good with the other dogs, and whilst another dog would likely give him a bit of confidence, for a patient adopter we do think he could live as an only dog. He hasn’t been cat tested but there are cats at the shelter so this could be arranged. Santiago will be neutered, is vaccinated and tested negative for all Mediterranean diseases.
