Shadow è un cane intelligente e affettuoso, che ha avuto un inizio difficile nella vita. È già stato adottato e riammesso in casa più volte, non perché non sia un fantastico cane, ma perché ha bisogno di un tipo speciale di casa per aiutarlo a crescere. Quello che realmente necessita adesso è qualcuno paziente, impegnato e disponibile a lavorare con lui in modo che possa finalmente calmarsi e svilupparsi. È un ragazzone vivace con un grande cuore, e quando si rilassa, porta gioia a tutti coloro che lo incontrano. Ha momenti molto tranquilli in cui sceglie di accoccolarsi con gli umani e con altri cani, gode del gioco e è veloce nell'imparare cose nuove. Come molti Podenco Manetos è un vero carattere e ha un lato scherzoso: una personalità grande in un pacchetto piccolo! Al momento condivide la sua casa con un altro cane, con il quale si intende molto bene. Può vivere con altri cani o come compagno solitario. Shadow sta attualmente superando alcuni problemi, tra cui l'ansia, la caccia alle ombre in casa e la reattività al guinzaglio verso cani sconosciuti durante le passeggiate. Sta già facendo buoni progressi con un piano comportamentale e con farmaci per l'ansia (che il rifugio può coprire), e abbiamo un comportamentalista che continuerà a fornire supporto continuativo a chi lo adotta o lo prende in foster. Con costanza e impegno, Shadow sta dimostrando che può davvero riuscire. Cerchiamo una casa situata in un ambiente rurale o in un piccolo paese, in modo che le sue passeggiate siano belle e tranquille. Ha vissuto felicemente con bambini prima, pensiamo che una casa con bambini di età 12 anni o più sarebbe ideale per lui. Soprattutto, Shadow ha bisogno di stabilità e di qualcuno che rimanga al suo fianco attraverso i alti e bassi mentre continua il suo percorso. Shadow is a clever, affectionate young dog who has had a tough start in life. He’s already been adopted and rehomed more than once, not because he isn’t a wonderful dog, but because he needs a special kind of home to help him thrive. What he really needs now is someone patient, committed, and ready to work with him so he can finally settle and blossom. Since arriving in foster, Shadow has made positive progress and formed strong bonds with his foster family. He is an affectionate and intelligent dog who enjoys routine, predictability and spending time with the people he knows and trusts. This is what his foster family have to say about him: “Shadow is a joy to be around! All he really wants from life is a lap to sit on. He can be a little cautious around new people, but as soon as he decides you are safe he will be climbing right on top of you, no matter where you are sat or what you are trying to do. He can be a little obsessive and opinionated, and sometimes needs an enforced cuddle to calm down as he is easily overstimulated. But he is so clever and quick to learn :) He just needs someone who can give him some extra care 💖” Shadow can find unfamiliar people, dogs and busy environments overwhelming, which can lead to reactive behaviours. He also displays compulsive light and shadow chasing behaviours and is currently working with a professional behaviourist. A behaviour plan is already in place and his future adopter will receive ongoing support and guidance. Shadow is looking for an adult-only home in a calm environment where he can continue building confidence at his own pace. A secure garden is essential, providing him with a safe space to relax and decompress away from the pressures of the outside world. Shadow could happily live as an only dog or with a calm, well-balanced dog who can help show him the ropes and provide reassurance when the world feels a little overwhelming. While Shadow will need ongoing understanding and support, he has already shown that with patience, consistency and the right guidance, he is capable of making meaningful progress. We are looking for adopters who can continue helping him on that journey and fall in love with him for who he is - a little sweetheart. Shadow will be neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for all Mediterranean diseases. He is currently living in Birmingham and available for meet and greets and adoption now.
