Un introvato naturale, Watson è un animo sensibile che ama molto le interazioni dolci con le persone una volta che ha avuto tempo per prendere tutto in considerazione. Per questo motivo, tende a tenere tutte le sue emozioni dentro e non saluta le persone con l'entusiasmo di alcuni degli altri levrieri disponibili per l'adozione. Watson ha trascorso quasi un mese in una casa di accoglienza tranquilla recentemente come parte del nostro programma di valutazione della casa/respiro in canile per aiutarci a capire meglio come potrebbe adattarsi alla vita in casa. Ha fatto molto bene, tanto che la sua assistente temporanea ha commentato eccitata: "C'è tanta buona notizia su questo ragazzo! Mi è piaciuto molto averlo." Watson si è adattato abbastanza facilmente all'ambiente domestico. Entro pochi giorni non era più disturbato dagli elettrodomestici o dalla TV ed aveva perfezionato il programma per andare in bagno. Entro la fine della prima settimana aveva imparato a scendere le scale e dormiva tutta la notte in una gabbietta aperta nella stanza della sua assistente. E entro la fine del periodo di accoglienza, era iniziato a rilassarsi abbastanza da mostrare la sua personalità estremamente dolce e curiosa. Poiché Watson ha vissuto solo con altri levrieri nell'ambiente regolare di un canile per corse, è ancora in fase di apprendimento per sentirsi abbastanza sicuro da trascorrere tempo da solo. Per questo motivo cerchiamo una casa che possa offrire costante compagnia a Watson e lavorare gradualmente sul suo aumento di fiducia e autonomia. Tuttavia, è molto felice di trascorrere tempo con altre persone "zia" e "zio", se devi uscire! Inoltre, viaggia bene e può trascorrere brevi periodi in auto se devi andare al negozio. Come molti ex-corsisti, Watson si sente bene quando la vita è prevedibile. Ha bisogno di passeggiate molto brevi e tranquille all'inizio, perché può essere sopraffatto da cose nuove, rumori e cani sconosciuti che non sono levrieri. Lo stiamo lavorando con lui e sta facendo buoni progressi, imparando nuove competenze, e continueremo a supportarlo in questo. Questo potrebbe significare che inizialmente le passeggiate non saranno molto interessanti, ma man mano che la sua fiducia crescerà, potremo vederlo andare in posti diversi. Adora annusare, quindi un sentiero boscoso tranquillo sarà perfetto per lui in futuro, una volta che si sentirà più a suo agio all'esterno.

A natural introvert, Watson is a sensitive soul who very much enjoys gentle interactions with people once he has had time to take everything in. Because of this, he tends to keep all his emotions inside and so doesn’t tend to greet people as exuberantly as some of the other greyhounds available for adoption. Watson spent close to a month in a quiet foster home recently as part of our home assessment/kennel respite programme to help us better understand how he might find home life. He did really well, causing his foster carer to excitedly comment, “There’s so much good news with this boy! I’ve loved having him.” Watson settled into the home environment with relative ease. Within a few days, he was no longer bothered by home appliances or the TV and had perfected the toileting routine. By the end of the first week, he had cracked the stairs and was sleeping right through the night in an open crate in his foster carer’s room. And by the end of the placement, he was beginning to relax enough to show his personality as extremely loving and inquisitive. Because he has only ever lived with other greyhounds in the routine environment of a racing kennel, Watson is still learning to feel confident enough to spend time alone. For that reason, we are looking for a home that can provide constant company for Watson and work on increasing his confidence and independence very gradually. However, he’s very happy to spend time with other human ‘Aunties’ and ‘Uncles’, if you need to go out! He also travels well and can spend short amounts of time in the car if you need to pop to the shops. Live many ex-racers, Watson thrives when life is predictable. He needs very short and quiet walks initially, as he can get overwhelmed with strange sights, noises and unfamiliar dogs who aren’t greyhounds. We’ve been working on this with him, and he’s been making good progress and learning new skills, and we will continue to support with this. This might mean walks aren’t that interesting to begin with but as his confidence develops, we can see him being able to go to more places. He absolutely loves to sniff, so a quiet woodland trail will be perfect for him eventually, once he feels more at ease being outside.
