Un introvertido natural, Watson es un alma sensible que disfruta mucho las interacciones suaves con la gente una vez que ha tenido tiempo de asimilar todo. Por esta razón, suele guardar todos sus sentimientos en su interior y por eso no tiende a saludar a la gente tan exuberantemente como algunos de los demás galgos disponibles para adopción. Watson pasó casi un mes en un hogar de acogida tranquilo recientemente como parte de nuestro programa de evaluación del hogar/respiro en la jaula para ayudarnos a comprender mejor cómo podría adaptarse a la vida en casa. Lo hizo muy bien, lo que llevó a su cuidador de acogida a comentar con entusiasmo: "Hay mucha buena noticia con este chico. Me ha encantado tenerlo". Watson se adaptó al entorno doméstico con relativa facilidad. En pocos días ya no se molestaba con los electrodomésticos o la televisión y había perfeccionado la rutina de ir al baño. Para el final de la primera semana, había aprendido a subir las escaleras y dormía toda la noche en una jaula abierta en la habitación de su cuidador. Y para el final de la estancia, empezó a relajarse lo suficiente como para mostrar su personalidad extremadamente cariñosa e curiosa. Como ha vivido solo con otros galgos en el entorno rutinario de un criadero de carreras, Watson aún está aprendiendo a sentirse lo suficientemente seguro como para pasar tiempo solo. Por esa razón, estamos buscando un hogar que pueda ofrecerle compañía constante a Watson y trabajar en aumentar progresivamente su seguridad y autonomía. Sin embargo, está muy contento pasando tiempo con otras personas "Tías" y "Tíos", si necesitas salir! También viaja bien y puede pasar pequeños periodos en el coche si necesitas ir a la tienda. Como muchos ex corredores, Watson se siente bien cuando la vida es predecible. Necesita caminatas muy cortas y tranquilas al principio, ya que puede sobrecargarse con vistas extrañas, ruidos y perros desconocidos que no sean galgos. Hemos estado trabajando con él y ha hecho buen progreso aprendiendo nuevas habilidades, y seguiremos apoyándolo. Esto podría significar que las caminatas no sean muy interesantes al principio, pero a medida que vaya desarrollando confianza, podremos ver cómo puede ir a más lugares. Le encanta olfatear, así que un sendero silencioso en el bosque será perfecto para él eventualmente, una vez que se sienta más cómodo estando afuera.

A natural introvert, Watson is a sensitive soul who very much enjoys gentle interactions with people once he has had time to take everything in. Because of this, he tends to keep all his emotions inside and so doesn’t tend to greet people as exuberantly as some of the other greyhounds available for adoption. Watson spent close to a month in a quiet foster home recently as part of our home assessment/kennel respite programme to help us better understand how he might find home life. He did really well, causing his foster carer to excitedly comment, “There’s so much good news with this boy! I’ve loved having him.” Watson settled into the home environment with relative ease. Within a few days, he was no longer bothered by home appliances or the TV and had perfected the toileting routine. By the end of the first week, he had cracked the stairs and was sleeping right through the night in an open crate in his foster carer’s room. And by the end of the placement, he was beginning to relax enough to show his personality as extremely loving and inquisitive. Because he has only ever lived with other greyhounds in the routine environment of a racing kennel, Watson is still learning to feel confident enough to spend time alone. For that reason, we are looking for a home that can provide constant company for Watson and work on increasing his confidence and independence very gradually. However, he’s very happy to spend time with other human ‘Aunties’ and ‘Uncles’, if you need to go out! He also travels well and can spend short amounts of time in the car if you need to pop to the shops. Live many ex-racers, Watson thrives when life is predictable. He needs very short and quiet walks initially, as he can get overwhelmed with strange sights, noises and unfamiliar dogs who aren’t greyhounds. We’ve been working on this with him, and he’s been making good progress and learning new skills, and we will continue to support with this. This might mean walks aren’t that interesting to begin with but as his confidence develops, we can see him being able to go to more places. He absolutely loves to sniff, so a quiet woodland trail will be perfect for him eventually, once he feels more at ease being outside.
