Update 28.2.2026: Nu zijn ze op het dierenasiel. Erato is ongeveer 4 jaar en gezond. Ze zijn veilig en in ons zorg. Wat mooie dieren. Ze zijn blij om bij elkaar te zijn. Hoewel hun leven op zijn kop was gezet, doen we ons best om het weer goed te maken. Tot nu toe gaat het goed. Erato is de moeder (links), Lyra is het meisje (hoewel ze even groot is als haar moeder, rechts). Na een tijdje om te ontspannen zullen we hen voor adoptie aanbieden. Voorlopig geven we ze veel aandacht en laten we ze tijd om zich aan te passen aan onze ruimte. Haar verhaal: Als je ooit op de Oude Haven in Chania bent geweest, heb je Erato en haar baby gezien. Ze wonen op een boot. Nou, ze woonden op een boot met hun eigenaar. Hun eigenaar is ziek geworden, is opgenomen in het ziekenhuis en kan niet langer voor hen zorgen. De havenpolitie heeft van de gemeente gevraagd dat ze van de boot werden gehaald. De havenpolitie had me een paar dagen geleden geprobeerd te bereiken, maar ik had geen tijd om terug te bellen. Vandaag op de dierenarts, hoewel ze dat normaal gesproken niet doet, vroeg mijn dierenarts om hulp omdat ze deze dier “op straat” niet wilde zien. Dat was toen ze me naar waar Erato in haar kooi was bracht en ik haar direct herkende! Ze zou op straat worden losgelaten? Dit dier had altijd een eigenaar! Dus heb ik ingestemd om haar en haar baby (die nog op de boot zit terwijl ik dit schrijf) morgen op te vangen. Welkom Erato, ik hoop dat het asiel tijdelijk is. Met je mooiheid, waarschijnlijk wel. Erato wordt geschat op vier jaar. Vandaag is ze gecastreerd en medisch gecontroleerd door de dierenarts. Ze is leishmania negatief en gezond.

She used to live on a boat at the old Harbor in Chania but her owner got sick and couldn’t take care of them anymore. Erato has vision problems and can't see very well. She is receiving treatment in the form of eye drops. Description/Updates/Pictures: Update June 2026: Erato likes to play with water Update February 2026: Now they are at the shelter. Erato is about 4 years and healthy. They are safe and in our care. What beautiful animals, happy to be together. Although their lives were turned upside down, we are doing our best to turn it right side up again. So far, so good. Erato is the momma (left), Lyra is the little girl (although she is as big as her momma, right). “They live on a boat. Well, they lived on a boat with their owner. Their owner has become ill, has been hospitalized and can no longer care for them. The harbor police asked from the municipality to have them removed from the boat. The harbor police had tried to contact me a few days ago but I had not had the time to get back to them. Today at the vet, although not accustomed to doing so, my vet asked me for help because she could not see this animal “released” on to the street. That was when she took me to where Erato was in her cage and I immediately recognized her! She was to be released on to the street? This animal had always had an owner! So I agreed to take her and her baby girl (who is on the boat as I write) tomorrow. Welcome Erato, I hope the shelter will be temporary. With your beauty, it probably will. Erato is estimated at four years old. Today she was neutered and clinically checked by the vet. She is leishmania negative and healthy.”
