Petal o bulldog chegou ao Hotel como cão abandonado. Ela estava muito acima do peso (quase 30kg!) e tinha um grande dobra nasal que era cheiroso e estava afetando sua capacidade de respirar. Infelizmente, Petal foi criada para parecer assim, sem considerar sua saúde e bem-estar. Dobras nasais grandes podem afetar a respiração, a visão dos cães e podem se infectar dolorosamente. Esses cães não são "fofinhos" - eles estão sofrendo. Após sua primeira visita ao veterinário do Hotel, decidiu-se que a dobra nasal precisava ser removida, mas ela precisava perder algum peso antes de poder passar com segurança por anestesia. O primeiro passo em sua jornada para uma boa saúde foi entrar em um plano de dieta e condicionamento físico! Infelizmente, a combinação de seu rosto achatado e o calor significava que este foi um processo lento, mas durante esse tempo ela aproveitou muitas caminhadas curtas com nossos voluntários. Quando Petal atingiu um peso mais saudável, ela foi operada pelo nosso veterinário. A diferença foi enorme! Ela agora consegue respirar muito melhor e está começando a disfrutar de caminhadas enquanto se recupera. Cães como Petal nunca deveriam ter sido criados assim. Aqui no Hotel de Resgate, vemos inúmeros cães que foram vítimas de criação ruim, onde resgates ficam responsáveis pelas consequências. Suas doações ajudam a pagar procedimentos que mudam vidas como o de Petal, e ajudam a conscientizar sobre os impactos da criação desregulada e antiética.

Petal the bulldog arrived at the Hotel as a stray. She was very overweight (almost 30kg!) and had a large nasal fold that was smelly and affecting her ability to breathe. Unfortunately, Petal has been bred to look this way with no regard for her health and welfare. Large nasal folds can affect dog's breathing, sight, and can become painfully infected. These dogs aren't “cute” – they are suffering. After her first visit to the Hotel's vet, it was decided that the nasal fold needed to be removed, but she needed to lose some weight before she could safely go under anaesthetic. The first step in her journey to good health was to get on a diet and fitness plan! Unfortunately, the combination of her flat face and the hot weather meant that this was a slow process, but in the meantime she enjoyed lots of short walks with our volunteers. Once Petal had reached a healthier weight, she was operated on by our vet. The difference was huge! She can now breathe much better, and is starting to enjoy walks as she recovers. Dogs like Petal should have never been bred like this. Here at the Rescue Hotel, we see countless dogs that have been the victims of bad breeding, where rescues are left to deal with the consequences.
