Petal el bulldog llegó al Hotel como perro abandonado. Estaba muy obesa (casi 30 kg!) y tenía un pliegue nasal grande que olía mal y afectaba su capacidad para respirar. Desafortunadamente, Petal ha sido criada para lucir así sin importarle su salud y bienestar. Los grandes pliegues nasales pueden afectar la respiración, la visión de los perros y pueden infectarse dolorosamente. Estos perros no son "lindos" sino que sufren. Después de su primera visita al veterinario del Hotel, se decidió que el pliegue nasal necesitaba ser retirado, pero ella necesitaba perder algo de peso antes de poder someterse con seguridad a la anestesia. El primer paso en su camino hacia una buena salud fue ponerse en un plan de dieta y ejercicio! Desafortunadamente, la combinación de su cara plana y el clima caluroso hizo que este fuera un proceso lento, pero durante ese tiempo disfrutó muchas caminatas cortas con nuestros voluntarios. Una vez que Petal alcanzó un peso más saludable, fue operada por nuestro veterinario. La diferencia fue enorme! Ahora puede respirar mucho mejor y está comenzando a disfrutar las caminatas mientras se recupera. Perros como Petal nunca deberían haber sido criados así. Aquí en el Hotel de Rescate, vemos a cientos de perros que han sido víctimas de mala cría, donde los rescates quedan encargados de lidiar con las consecuencias. Petal the bulldog arrived at the Hotel as a stray. She was very overweight (almost 30kg!) and had a large nasal fold that was smelly and affecting her ability to breathe. Unfortunately, Petal has been bred to look this way with no regard for her health and welfare. Large nasal folds can affect dog's breathing, sight, and can become painfully infected. These dogs aren't “cute” – they are suffering. After her first visit to the Hotel's vet, it was decided that the nasal fold needed to be removed, but she needed to lose some weight before she could safely go under anaesthetic. The first step in her journey to good health was to get on a diet and fitness plan! Unfortunately, the combination of her flat face and the hot weather meant that this was a slow process, but in the meantime she enjoyed lots of short walks with our volunteers. Once Petal had reached a healthier weight, she was operated on by our vet. The difference was huge! She can now breathe much better, and is starting to enjoy walks as she recovers. Dogs like Petal should have never been bred like this. Here at the Rescue Hotel, we see countless dogs that have been the victims of bad breeding, where rescues are left to deal with the consequences.
