Petal il bulldog è arrivata al Hotel come randagia. Era molto grassa (quasi 30 kg!) e aveva una grande piega nasale che era puzzolente e che influenzava la sua capacità di respirare. Purtroppo Petal è stata allevata per sembrare così, senza considerare la sua salute e benessere. Le grandi pieghe nasali possono influenzare il respiro, la vista e possono diventare dolorosamente infette. Questi cani non sono "carini" - soffrono. Dopo la sua prima visita dal veterinario del Hotel, si è deciso che la piega nasale doveva essere rimossa, ma lei doveva perdere un po' di peso prima di poter sottoporsi in sicurezza all'anestesia. Il primo passo nel suo percorso verso una buona salute è stato mettersi su una dieta e un piano di esercizio! Purtroppo, la combinazione della sua faccia piatta e il caldo significava che il processo era lento, ma nel frattempo ha goduto di tante brevi passeggiate con i nostri volontari. Una volta che Petal ha raggiunto un peso più sano, è stata operata dal nostro veterinario. La differenza è stata enorme! Ora può respirare molto meglio e sta iniziando a godersi le passeggiate mentre si riprende. Cani come Petal non dovrebbero mai essere stati allevati così. Qui al Rescue Hotel, vediamo innumerevoli cani che sono vittime di cattiva selezione, dove gli allevatori lasciano i rischi da gestire. Petal the bulldog arrived at the Hotel as a stray. She was very overweight (almost 30kg!) and had a large nasal fold that was smelly and affecting her ability to breathe. Unfortunately, Petal has been bred to look this way with no regard for her health and welfare. Large nasal folds can affect dog's breathing, sight, and can become painfully infected. These dogs aren't “cute” – they are suffering. After her first visit to the Hotel's vet, it was decided that the nasal fold needed to be removed, but she needed to lose some weight before she could safely go under anaesthetic. The first step in her journey to good health was to get on a diet and fitness plan! Unfortunately, the combination of her flat face and the hot weather meant that this was a slow process, but in the meantime she enjoyed lots of short walks with our volunteers. Once Petal had reached a healthier weight, she was operated on by our vet. The difference was huge! She can now breathe much better, and is starting to enjoy walks as she recovers. Dogs like Petal should have never been bred like this. Here at the Rescue Hotel, we see countless dogs that have been the victims of bad breeding, where rescues are left to deal with the consequences.
