Vimos pela primeira vez o sofrimento da Vixen no Facebook - um resgate estava compartilhando fotos dela vivendo em um posto de combustível e fugindo regularmente do tráfego. Eles não tinham espaço, então estavam pedindo ajuda a quem pudesse acolhê-la. Entramos em contato com um dos nossos próprios canis parceiros na região que ficou feliz em ajudar a capturá-la e levá-la para segurança. É muito perigoso para os podencos andarem regularmente pelas estradas para buscar comida e abrigo. Ela provou ser extremamente difícil de capturar, pois não entrava na armadilha apesar de muitas tentativas. Nosso contato conversou com trabalhadores locais que disseram que muitos resgates tentaram capturá-la e falharam - ela estava lá há vários meses evitando todos os tipos diferentes de captura - incrivelmente esperta, astuta e difícil de encontrar, como um zorro, por isso seu nome! Todos estávamos percebendo que ela poderia acabar sendo atingida antes que pudessemos salvá-la, quando recebemos uma mensagem dizendo que uma garota da região havia capturado um podenco fêmea. Esperamos ansiosos para ver se era ela e ficamos felizes em descobrir que sim. A menina a alimentava todos os dias e conseguiu ganhar sua confiança. Assim que chegou ao abrigo, e superou seus nervos iniciais, ela logo se acalmou e ficou feliz em receber carinho das pessoas. Ela ainda é um pouco tímida com estranhos, mas assim que conhece você, isso desaparece. Ela é uma menininha doce e curiosa, que se dá bem com outros cães e tem um ótimo temperamento. Ela apreciaria a companhia de outro cão, mas poderia ser adotada como único cão, com a compreensão de que pode levar um pouco mais de tempo para relaxar totalmente sem outro cão para guiá-la. Ela não foi testada com gatos, mas vive livremente entre porcos! Podemos organizar uma testagem com gatos se necessário. A Vixen será esterilizada, vacinada e testada e limpa para todas as doenças mediterrâneas, exceto Babesia - como já foi dito, ela testou positivo e está recebendo tratamento para isso, então podemos retestar para ter a certeza. We first saw Vixen’s plight on Facebook - a rescue were sharing photos of her living on a petrol station forecourt and regularly dodging traffic. They had no space so were asking for help from anyone that could take her on. We reached out to one of our own partner kennels in the area who were happy to help trap her and get her to safety. Its so dangerous for podencos to be crossing roads regularly to get food and shelter. She proved incredibly difficult to catch as she wouldn’t go into the trap despite many attempts. Our contact spoke to local workers who said many rescues had tried to catch her and failed - she had been there for many months evading all different types of capture - incredibly wily, cunning and elusive, like a fox hence her name! We were all coming to the realisation that she may end up getting hit before we could save her, when we got a message saying that a girl in the local area had caught a female podenco. We waited with baited breath to see if it was her and were delighted to find out that it was. The girl had been feeding her every day, and had managed to earn her trust enough. Once she arrived at the shelter, and got over her initial nerves she soon warmed up and was happy to receive affection from people. She is still a little shy at first with strangers but once she gets to know you this melts away. She is a sweet, curious little girl who is great with other dogs and has a lovely temperament. She would enjoy other doggy company but could be homed as an only dog with the recognition that she might take a little longer to fully relax without another dog to lead the way. She hasn’t been cat tested, but free roams in amongst pigs! We can arrange a cat tested if needed. Vixen will be neutered, vaccinated and is tested and clear for all Mediterranean diseases excluding Babesia - as already stated she has tested positive and is receiving treatment for this, so we can retest for the all clear.
