Groot a ajuns la noi luna trecută [26 martie] după ce s-a salvat cu greu de la eutanasie într-un refugiu, câteva ore departe de Hull. Oamenii de la refugiu au încercat totul și, într-un ultim efort de a-l salva, au contactat resemptorii din alte zone. Când am primit e-mailul lor, tocmai trimisese un câine la casa lui pentru totdeauna și așa că Groot a sărit direct în mașina unui voluntar și a plecat spre Oakwood Dog Rescue pentru a se muta în cătușa goală, încă caldă. Groot s-a dovedit a fi nici mai mult nici mai puțin decât un gigant blând și iubește foarte mult să fie alături de oameni. Din cauza faptului că Groot nu a fost încă castrat, nu am putut să-l amestec cu celelalte câini. A văzut fetele trecând și este calm cu coada ușor mișcându-se, băieții nu-l iubesc și au fost foarte reactivi, dar Groot nici măcar nu se clintește, el este foarte calm cu ei, chiar și când sunt neospitalieri față de el. Până când Groot va fi castrat și hormonii să se liniștească, nu vom putea face orice amestec cu el și, prin urmare, nu vom putea considera o casă cu alt câine în acest moment. Datorită faptului că rasa lui are instinct natural de pradă, Groot nu poate trăi într-o casă cu pisici. Groot s-a dovedit a fi un băiat foarte relaxat. Credem că este unul dintre acei câini care ar avea o explozie de 5-10 minute pe liber și apoi ar fi mulțumit să doarmă restul zilei. În prezent este încă sub evaluare, având în vedere că este nou. Groot este foarte liniștit în cătușă, aproape că nici nu știm că există acolo. Credem că într-o casă ar fi ok să stea singur 4-5 ore, dar acest lucru poate necesita construire în timp. Groot merge perfect la școală. Groot nu a arătat nicio formă de antrenament. Uneori face „stai” pentru noi și este curat în cătușă, dar probabil că nu va fi complet antrenat pentru acasă și aceasta va trebui lucrată într-o casă.

Groot recently arrived to us last March, after very narrowly avoiding being euthanised in a pound several hours away from Hull. The pound pullers had tried everything and in a last ditch attempt to save his life, they contacted rescues further afield. When we received their email, we'd just had a dog head off to their forever home and so Groot jumped straight into the car of a volunteer and headed over to Oakwood Dog Rescue to move into the still warm, empty kennel. Groot has showed to be nothing more than an absolute gentle giant and absolutely loves being with his people. Groot has mixed with several of our larger dogs at the rescue. He tends to tire very quickly when playing with them but when he is bombing on around our fields, he doesn't seem to realise his size and the other dogs can get a little worried. He walks nicely alongside a male dog at our rescue but only has female friends that we have him off lead with. If he was to live with another dog, it would need to be a dog of similar size to him. Due to his breed that tends to have natural prey instinct, Groot is not able to live in a home with cats. Groot has shown to be a very chilled out boy. We think he's one of those dogs that would have a mad 5-10 minute blast off lead and then be content with snoozing for the rest of the day. Groot is very quiet in his kennel, we barely even know he's there. We believe in a home that he'd be ok to be left 4-5 hours but this could need building up over time. Groot walks absolutely lovely on a lead. Groot has shown to not have any form of training. He does occassionally do a 'sit' for us and he is spotless in his kennel but it's likely that he won't be fully housetrained and this may need to be worked on in a home.
