Groot kom till oss för några veckor sedan [26 mars] efter att ha undgått dödshandling i en hundpark några timmars resa från Hull med mycket svårt. Hundparkens personal hade försökt allt och som sista utväg kontaktade de räddningsinsatser längre bort. När vi fick deras e-post hade vi just skickat en hund till hans eviga hem och så hoppade Groot direkt in i bilen hos en frivillig och åkte till Oakwood Dog Rescue för att flytta in i den fortfarande varma, tomma kuren. Groot har visat sig vara inget annat än en absolut vänlig jätte och älskar att vara hos sina människor. På grund av att Groot inte är kastrerad kan vi inte blanda honom med några av de andra hundarna. Han har sett flickorna förbi och är lugn med en mjuk svansvinkling, pojknarna tycker inte om honom och har varit extremt reaktiva men Groot ligger bara lugnt och andas ut med dem alla, även när de är så oinviterande mot honom. Förrän Groot är kastrerad och hans hormoner har lugnat ner kommer vi inte kunna blanda honom med andra hundar och därför kan vi inte överväga ett hem med en annan hund för närvarande. På grund av hans ras som ofta har naturlig jaginstinkt kan Groot inte leva i ett hem med katter. Groot har visat sig vara en mycket lugn kill. Vi tror att han är en av de hundarna som skulle ha en snabb 5-10 minuters sprint på led medan han sedan skulle vara nöjd med att sova resten av dagen. Han är fortfarande under bedömning vad gäller detta eftersom han är ny. Groot är mycket tyst i sin kuren, vi märker knappt att han finns där. Vi tror att han skulle vara okej att lämna 4-5 timmar i ett hem men det kan behöva byggas upp över tid. Groot går absolut perfekt på en ledd. Groot har visat att han inte har någon form av träning. Han gör ibland ett "sitt" för oss och han är rent i sin kuren men det är troligt att han inte är fullt utträningsskadad och det kan behöva arbetas vidare i ett hem.

Groot recently arrived to us last March, after very narrowly avoiding being euthanised in a pound several hours away from Hull. The pound pullers had tried everything and in a last ditch attempt to save his life, they contacted rescues further afield. When we received their email, we'd just had a dog head off to their forever home and so Groot jumped straight into the car of a volunteer and headed over to Oakwood Dog Rescue to move into the still warm, empty kennel. Groot has showed to be nothing more than an absolute gentle giant and absolutely loves being with his people. Groot has mixed with several of our larger dogs at the rescue. He tends to tire very quickly when playing with them but when he is bombing on around our fields, he doesn't seem to realise his size and the other dogs can get a little worried. He walks nicely alongside a male dog at our rescue but only has female friends that we have him off lead with. If he was to live with another dog, it would need to be a dog of similar size to him. Due to his breed that tends to have natural prey instinct, Groot is not able to live in a home with cats. Groot has shown to be a very chilled out boy. We think he's one of those dogs that would have a mad 5-10 minute blast off lead and then be content with snoozing for the rest of the day. Groot is very quiet in his kennel, we barely even know he's there. We believe in a home that he'd be ok to be left 4-5 hours but this could need building up over time. Groot walks absolutely lovely on a lead. Groot has shown to not have any form of training. He does occassionally do a 'sit' for us and he is spotless in his kennel but it's likely that he won't be fully housetrained and this may need to be worked on in a home.
