Groot è appena arrivato da noi lo scorso mese [26 marzo] dopo aver evitato per un soffio l'eutanasia in un canile a diverse ore di distanza da Hull. I recuperatori del canile avevano provato tutto e in un ultimo tentativo disperato per salvarlo, avevano contattato i soccorritori più lontani. Quando abbiamo ricevuto la loro email, avevamo appena mandato un cane al suo nuovo e definitivo posto e così Groot è salito subito in auto con un volontario e si è diretto verso Oakwood Dog Rescue per entrare nel recinto ancora caldo e vuoto. Groot si è rivelato nient'altro che un gigante gentile e adora stare con le persone. A causa del fatto che Groot non è ancora castrato, non abbiamo potuto metterlo in compagnia degli altri cani. Ha visto le ragazze passare e si mostra calmo con una coda che si muove dolcemente, i maschi invece non lo gradiscono e sono molto reattivi ma Groot nemmeno sbatte ciglio, è molto rilassato con tutti, anche quando sono poco accoglienti con lui. Finché Groot non sarà castrato e i suoi ormoni non si saranno stabilizzati, non potremo farlo interagire con gli altri cani e quindi non possiamo considerare un ambiente con un altro cane per il momento. A causa della sua razza che tende ad avere un istinto naturale alla preda, Groot non può vivere in una casa con i gatti. Groot si è rivelato un ragazzo molto rilassato. Pensiamo che sia uno di quei cani che farebbe una corsa pazza di 5-10 minuti al guinzaglio e poi sarebbe contento a dormire per il resto della giornata. Tuttavia è ancora in fase di valutazione, essendo nuovo. Groot è molto silenzioso nel recinto, quasi non ci accorgiamo che è lì. Crediamo che in un ambiente domestico possa stare da solo 4-5 ore ma potrebbe necessitare di un periodo di abituazione. Groot cammina molto bene al guinzaglio. Groot non ha mai ricevuto alcun addestramento. A volte fa un "seduto" per noi e è impeccabile nel suo recinto, ma probabilmente non sarà completamente addestrato all'uso della casa e questo potrebbe richiedere lavoro in un ambiente domestico.

Groot recently arrived to us last March, after very narrowly avoiding being euthanised in a pound several hours away from Hull. The pound pullers had tried everything and in a last ditch attempt to save his life, they contacted rescues further afield. When we received their email, we'd just had a dog head off to their forever home and so Groot jumped straight into the car of a volunteer and headed over to Oakwood Dog Rescue to move into the still warm, empty kennel. Groot has showed to be nothing more than an absolute gentle giant and absolutely loves being with his people. Groot has mixed with several of our larger dogs at the rescue. He tends to tire very quickly when playing with them but when he is bombing on around our fields, he doesn't seem to realise his size and the other dogs can get a little worried. He walks nicely alongside a male dog at our rescue but only has female friends that we have him off lead with. If he was to live with another dog, it would need to be a dog of similar size to him. Due to his breed that tends to have natural prey instinct, Groot is not able to live in a home with cats. Groot has shown to be a very chilled out boy. We think he's one of those dogs that would have a mad 5-10 minute blast off lead and then be content with snoozing for the rest of the day. Groot is very quiet in his kennel, we barely even know he's there. We believe in a home that he'd be ok to be left 4-5 hours but this could need building up over time. Groot walks absolutely lovely on a lead. Groot has shown to not have any form of training. He does occassionally do a 'sit' for us and he is spotless in his kennel but it's likely that he won't be fully housetrained and this may need to be worked on in a home.
