Groot chegou recentemente a nós no mês passado [26 de março] após escapar por pouco da eutanásia em um abrigo a algumas horas de Hull. Os agentes do abrigo tentaram tudo e, em um último esforço para salvar sua vida, entraram em contato com resgates mais distantes. Quando recebemos o email deles, havíamos acabado de levar um cão para sua nova casa e, assim, Groot pulou imediatamente para o carro de um voluntário e foi para o Oakwood Dog Rescue para se instalar no canil ainda quente e vazio. Groot mostrou-se nada mais do que um gigante gentil e ama muito estar com as pessoas. Devido ao fato de Groot ainda não ter sido castrado, não conseguimos misturá-lo com nenhum dos outros cães. Ele viu as meninas passando e é calmo com uma cauda balançando suavemente, os meninos não gostam dele e são muito reativos, mas Groot nem mesmo se incomoda, ele está super tranquilo com todos eles, mesmo quando estão sendo desagradáveis com ele. Até que Groot seja castrado e seus hormônios se estabilizem, não poderemos fazer nenhuma mistura com outros cães e, por isso, não podemos considerar um lar com outro cão por enquanto. Por causa do seu tipo que tende a ter instinto natural de caça, Groot não pode viver em um lar com gatos. Groot mostrou-se ser um rapaz extremamente tranquilo. Acreditamos que ele seria um desses cães que teria um frenesi de 5-10 minutos com a coleira e depois ficaria contente dormindo durante o resto do dia. Ele ainda está sob avaliação quanto a isso, já que é novo aqui. Groot é muito silencioso no seu canil, quase nem sabemos que ele está ali. Acreditamos que em um lar ele seria capaz de ficar sozinho por 4-5 horas, mas isso pode precisar ser construído ao longo do tempo. Groot caminha perfeitamente preso à coleira. Groot não mostrou ter nenhum tipo de treinamento. Ele ocasionalmente faz um "sentar" para nós e é impecável no seu canil, mas é provável que ele não esteja totalmente treinado para ir ao banheiro e isso pode precisar ser trabalhado em um lar.

Groot recently arrived to us last March, after very narrowly avoiding being euthanised in a pound several hours away from Hull. The pound pullers had tried everything and in a last ditch attempt to save his life, they contacted rescues further afield. When we received their email, we'd just had a dog head off to their forever home and so Groot jumped straight into the car of a volunteer and headed over to Oakwood Dog Rescue to move into the still warm, empty kennel. Groot has showed to be nothing more than an absolute gentle giant and absolutely loves being with his people. Groot has mixed with several of our larger dogs at the rescue. He tends to tire very quickly when playing with them but when he is bombing on around our fields, he doesn't seem to realise his size and the other dogs can get a little worried. He walks nicely alongside a male dog at our rescue but only has female friends that we have him off lead with. If he was to live with another dog, it would need to be a dog of similar size to him. Due to his breed that tends to have natural prey instinct, Groot is not able to live in a home with cats. Groot has shown to be a very chilled out boy. We think he's one of those dogs that would have a mad 5-10 minute blast off lead and then be content with snoozing for the rest of the day. Groot is very quiet in his kennel, we barely even know he's there. We believe in a home that he'd be ok to be left 4-5 hours but this could need building up over time. Groot walks absolutely lovely on a lead. Groot has shown to not have any form of training. He does occassionally do a 'sit' for us and he is spotless in his kennel but it's likely that he won't be fully housetrained and this may need to be worked on in a home.
