Abu &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 12 years

Abu now lives in 26427 Esens. All the best, Abuelita. Heartfelt thanks, Frau H. Anyone who follows our association regularly has noticed that in the last few weeks, we have had to deal with great challenges. During a visit to Spain, it became apparent that a terrible situation existed in a shelter in Huelva. As the Arca Family, we do not leave dogs in need, even if they are not in the care of our partners. In a short time, a new home had to be found for several dozen four-legged friends. The ARCA-Huelva has taken in some of the older dogs. We are very grateful, but also concerned, because now the small facility is overcrowded – and our seniors unfortunately have the least chance of finding a real home quickly. That is why we want to make special mention of our gray-nosed seniors. When one lets go of the idea that the quantity of days spent with a four-legged friend is more important than the quality of the time spent with our Opis and Omis, one quickly realizes how much our lovely retirees still have to give and how much one can learn from them. Here we present Abu (which means grandma, and the name is a program). Abu is between 10 and 12 years old and a bit tuckered out. Abu is leishmaniasis positive (which in her age hardly plays a role anymore) and suffers from gum growth. Her teeth are not in the best condition either, but which retiree still has a complete and healthy set of teeth? Abu does not need major treatments, but just regular check-ups that ensure pain-free living. Soft food and gentle massages make life a bit easier for the old lady. Abu still likes to take a few steps, but not anymore. She likes to lie in soft dog beds, cuddle comfortably with pillows and stuffed animals, and enjoys cuddles and every kind word. For Abu, we are looking for the classic grace place – people who do not start to "dokter" her but help her have a comfortable, pain-free, and joyful last chapter of life in a foster home atmosphere, loved, spoiled, and tenderly accompanied until the end.

Abu lebt jetzt in 26427 Esens. Alles Gute, Abuelita.

About Abu &#8211

What life with Abu &#8211 looks like

Abu &#8211 is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Abu &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Abu &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Abu &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Abu &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Abu &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Abu &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Abu &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
