Artai

Mixed Breed · Male

Our extremely cute new arrival Artai was found in a village near Linares, where he was staring at dirt, had matted fur and was looking sadly for food. A young girl took responsibility and gave the lovable Yorkshire a good meal and a roof over his head for the night before she delivered Artai the next day to the animal shelter of ArcoNatura in Linares. A beautiful, two-year-old (as of 03/21) dog of his size definitely doesn't belong in the chaos of traffic, small and friendly as he is, he would have been an easy victim for dog catchers. Now, if you are only 30cm tall and a male dog, life in the animal shelter can be quite demanding. Everyone else is bigger, stronger, and what is just a little nudge for a German Shepherd is already really dangerous for a handful of dogs like Artai. That's why the small ones spend more time in the kennel, have less time to play, winter is still not really over and even in Spain, the nights are cold and the concrete floor doesn't warm up during the day. Our little charm has drawn a lucky lot, because there is already a place in a foster family in Germany for him, which he can move into this month. At experienced dog owners, he can then enjoy the advantages of heating, dog bed and cuddle time and learn many things until a real home is found for the cute Springinsfeld. Atair is a playful companion and surprisingly balanced and approachable for a member of his breed. He likes everything and everyone, has respect but no fear, his explorer spirit is undiminished and he has enormous talent as a solo performer. The nice Yorkshire is about two years old and is undoubtedly a classic example of the category "perfect first dog"! Out of adolescence, but still young, very well socialized and with a size that allows older children to walk with him alone. Atair is joy of life on two legs and would like an active, humorous family... if that's all - shouldn't that be no problem for such a golden button?

DE·Show original

About Artai

What life with Artai looks like

Artai is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Artai, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Artai?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Artai on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Artai if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Artai already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Artai isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Artai and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
