Adela

German Shepherd · Female · Senior · 12 years

Adela - German Shepherd senior is looking for a quiet place to call home. Adela is a German Shepherd and is currently waiting in our Spanish partner shelter for her life to turn around. At about twelve years old, Adela is already considered a senior. Unfortunately, older dogs are often overlooked at shelters - but they still have so much love to give. Adela deserves to spend her final years not behind bars, but in a loving home. We unfortunately don't know anything about her past life. Therefore, we can't say what experiences she has had or what she needs to learn. A move to a new home will definitely require time, patience and a quiet arrival for her. As a German Shepherd, Adela probably brings close attachment, intelligence and loyalty as typical of the breed. She wants to be part of her family and values a reliable daily routine and people she can orientate herself around. We wish Adela a caring home that gives her time to settle in peacefully and spend her golden years in comfort. A soft bed, loving attention and walks together - that's probably all she needs to be happy. Choosing an older dog means taking responsibility for a dog whose time together may be shorter - but often more intense. We really hope Adela can spend her golden years as she deserves: as a beloved family member. Here is Adela's video. Ideally, we are looking for a home for Adela. At the moment, however, a foster home would also be a great help and a huge improvement in Adela's life.

About Adela

What life with Adela looks like

Adela is a large senior german shepherd dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Adela, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Adela?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Adela on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Adela if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Adela already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Adela isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Adela and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
