Adopt Birdie

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Birdie is a sensitive young lady looking for a calm, understanding home where she can settle in at her own pace and build trust in her new family. While Birdie has lots of love to give, she can find new people and unfamiliar situations worrying. She takes time to form trusting relationships and would thrive in a quiet, adult-only home with patient adopters who understand that friendship with Birdie is something that is earned rather than rushed. Due to her sensitive nature, she is unlikely to enjoy a busy household with frequent visitors and would be happiest in a predictable environment where she can feel safe and secure. Birdie's future adopters will need to be committed to visiting her at the centre several times before adoption. Taking the time to build a relationship with her before she heads home will help set her up for success and allow her to transition more comfortably into her new life. One thing that really helps Birdie feel brave is the company of other dogs. She enjoys spending time with her canine friends and would benefit from living with a well-matched, playful dog who can help show her the ropes and provide reassurance when she's feeling unsure. She can also find close handling challenging, particularly veterinary visits, which she finds especially stressful. As a result, Birdie will need to wear a muzzle during vet appointments to help keep everyone safe. Her new family should be prepared to continue positive, reward-based training to help build her confidence with wearing her muzzle, handling and support her as she learns that the world isn't quite so scary. Once Birdie feels comfortable, her playful side begins to shine. She absolutely adores her toys and can often be found tossing them high into the air, pouncing on them, and enjoying joyful zoomies around the garden. Food enrichment is another favourite pastime, and after a good play session and a tasty puzzle toy, Birdie is more than happy to find a sunny spot where she can curl up for a well-earned snooze. Birdie is looking for adopters who can see past her worries and appreciate the wonderful dog underneath. With patience, understanding, and plenty of time, Birdie will reward her family with the privilege of watching her confidence grow and her personality blossom. About Adopt Birdie

What life with Adopt Birdie looks like

Adopt Birdie is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hope Rescue in Pontyclun.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Adopt Birdie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Adopt Birdie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Adopt Birdie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Adopt Birdie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Adopt Birdie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Adopt Birdie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Adopt Birdie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
