Adopt Scruffy

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Scruffy is a delightful 1 year old Terrier Cross with a huge heart, an even bigger personality and an infectious zest for life. Full of fun and always ready for her next adventure, she also loves nothing more than curling up for cuddles after a busy day. If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who will keep you smiling, Scruffy could be the perfect match. She thrives on being outdoors and enjoys exploring woodland trails, paddling in shallow rivers and stretching her legs in a secure field. Walks are the highlight of her day, and she happily trots along, taking in all the sights and smells around her. Once she's had her exercise, Scruffy settles well at home, entertaining herself with her favourite toys before finding a cosy spot for a well-earned snooze. Scruffy has settled brilliantly into foster care. She travels well in the car, house trained and is well behaved around the home and can be left for short periods once she has settled into a routine, although she would be happiest in a home where someone is around for much of the day. When out on walks, Scruffy can be vocal when she sees other dogs. This is generally due to excitement and wanting to greet them. With continued positive training and guidance, she has every opportunity to build her confidence around other dogs. She could potentially live with another friendly dog, subject to a successful introduction at the Centre. Due to her strong prey drive, she cannot live with cats or small furries. Scruffy would be best suited to a home with children aged 10 years and over who are confident around dogs, as she can become excitable and occasionally mouth during play or greetings. An active family who enjoys walking, exploring and including their dog in everyday adventures would be ideal for Scruffy. She will also need a secure garden with high fencing, as she has shown she can be surprisingly athletic when something catches her interest. Scruffy is a wonderful little dog with so much love to give. Playful, affectionate and full of character, she brings joy wherever she goes. With a family willing to continue her training and give her the love and security she deserves, Scruffy will make an incredibly rewarding companion.Apply to adopt Published: 21st July, 2026 Author: Katrina Hyde Hagrid is a Cane Corso cross looking for his forever home. About Adopt Scruffy

What life with Adopt Scruffy looks like

Adopt Scruffy is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hope Rescue in Pontyclun.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Adopt Scruffy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Adopt Scruffy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hope Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Adopt Scruffy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Adopt Scruffy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hope Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Adopt Scruffy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Adopt Scruffy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hope Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Adopt Scruffy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
