Babak

Female · Young · 2 years

A very beautiful and kind large dog who needs time and love! Babak is a very young female, Maremma crossbreed, born probably in April 2024. She is a large dog (63 cm at the withers for 37 kg), abandoned and ended up in a dog shelter in the spring of 2025, when she should have discovered the world through a family and not behind bars. She shares the box with dogs of the other sex, not tested with other females. With people, Babak is an insecure small female dog, probably marked by what she has experienced. At first contact she appears tense and worried: the dog shelter is not a place that helps those with a sensitive soul like hers. But it takes little to see who she really is. With a calm, patient and reassuring attitude, Babak starts to lower her defenses: she accepts physical contact, allows herself to be approached and is able to stay next to someone without showing fear anymore. She just needs to understand that she can trust. During the walk, all her fragility emerges: she walks, but is agitated. Any noise puts her on alert, even the rustling of leaves. The world is still something to learn. She is certainly not a "difficult" dog, she is just a dog that has never had a guide. Babak is looking for a conscious family, preferably with experience or the desire to be guided by a dog trainer, who knows how to respect her pace and accompany her gently. A house in a quiet environment would be ideal, where she can finally relax and discover that life can be kind. Babak doesn't ask much: she asks for time, patience and real love. In return she will give you a deep bond, one that is built slowly but lasts forever. Don't let her grow up in a dog shelter. Babak deserves a second chance. She is in a private affiliated dog shelter in the province of Rome but we can also adopt her in the North, after the necessary pre-adoption home check, vaccinated, spayed, tested for leishmaniasis and obviously with a microchip. 328 003 45 08 You can also send an SMS or leave a message in the voicemail and you will be contacted as soon as possible.

IT·Show original

About Babak

What life with Babak looks like

Babak is a large young adult dog waiting at Associazione ALFA in Roma.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Babak, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Babak?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Associazione ALFA handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Babak on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Babak if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Associazione ALFA will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Babak already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Babak isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Associazione ALFA early rather than rehoming privately; they know Babak and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
