Adozione consapevole

Unknown

The first step is the most delicate and important: it is the moment when a family decides to expand and give a chance to one of the animals present in the animal shelter, a dog or a cat. To support you in your choice, you will be asked some questions, in order to present you with the dog or cat that best suits your situation and your dream. Later comes the beautiful part: getting to know the one who will become part of your family. This is a phase of meeting and listening; you will be introduced to different dogs and cats, each with a story and a personality. It is up to us to suggest the most suitable individual, but the final decision is up to you. The final phase is the one that will finally bring the chosen dog or cat home. The transition from the animal shelter to the domestic environment can be more or less difficult, and this period is a support for you and for the dog or cat that will be entrusted to you. It will be a personalized journey, aimed at starting to build a positive and trusting relationship even before living under the same roof, that relationship which will be fundamental in overcoming daily small and big challenges. Our association is and will always be at your disposal and has structured this process to provide all those involved in the adoption with the tools for a long and happy life together.

About Adozione consapevole

What life with Adozione consapevole looks like

Adozione consapevole is a adult dog waiting at Rifugio del Gazzo in Genova.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Adozione consapevole, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Adozione consapevole?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Rifugio del Gazzo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Adozione consapevole on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Adozione consapevole if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Rifugio del Gazzo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Adozione consapevole already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Adozione consapevole isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Rifugio del Gazzo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Adozione consapevole and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
