Agaporniden

Unknown · 2 years

Currently, some Agaporniden are waiting at the animal shelter for a new home, both established pairs and single birds that are desperately searching for a new partner. The inseparable ones (or also called lovebirds) are only rehomed in pairs or with an already existing partner and wish for varied mental stimulation and a daily free flight of at least five hours. The free flight should offer varied landing options, which are best made from natural materials like cork or natural twigs like willow. A UV light specifically for birds must not be missing in a suitable apartment living environment. For the care of two Agaporniden, the aviary should have the following minimum dimensions: 1.60 m long, about 60 cm deep, and about 1.50 m high – more space would of course be better. If you want to give a home to a pair of colorful birds or are looking for a new partner for your lone Agaporniden, feel free to contact their animal caretakers at the Bird House.

About Agaporniden

What life with Agaporniden looks like

Agaporniden is a small adult bird waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

Birds are long-lived, social, and noisy. The species and individual history matter enormously — ex-companion parrots can carry strong attachments and trauma. Ask the shelter about their daily routine, diet, and whether they'd do best alone or with a flockmate.

Note from the shelter: Must be adopted in pairs or with existing partner bird. Requires minimum 5 hours daily free flight, UV lighting, and large aviary (1.6m x 0.6m x 1.5m minimum).

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Agaporniden, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Agaporniden?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Agaporniden on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Agaporniden if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Agaporniden already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most birds on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Agaporniden isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Agaporniden and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
