Aida

Podenco · Female · Adult · 7 years

Aida - quiet soul seeks patient people. Aida has already come a long way. She had to wait many months in a Spanish animal shelter before she had the chance to go to a foster home in Germany. There, it became clear that she is a very timid dog who has not had many good experiences with people so far. Upon arriving at her foster home, there were initially small signs of hope: Aida quickly removed her collar and even chose a sleeping place right in the middle of daily life - at a place where her humans often pass by. It seemed as if she could trust faster than expected. However, her development has currently stagnated. Aida strongly relies on the existing dogs in the pack, with whom she lives without problems. She goes into the garden with them and also returns to the house - this gives her security. However, direct contact with humans is still very difficult for her. She does not allow herself to be touched and clearly shows when something is too much for her: If she feels pressured, she moves forward to create distance. Therefore, we are looking for very special people for Aida. People who do not expect anything from her, who do not want to "make her work", but simply give her time - as much as she needs. People who understand that trust must grow and cannot be demanded. An experienced first dog is absolutely necessary for Aida, as she strongly relies on her companions and gains security from them. Aida is not a dog for beginners and also not one that quickly "comes around". But she is one who, with patience, understanding, and a calm environment, might eventually learn that living with people can also be something beautiful. Who will give this cautious soul the chance for a life at her own pace?

DE·Show original

About Aida

What life with Aida looks like

Aida is a adult podenco dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Aida, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Aida?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Aida on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Aida if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Aida already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Aida isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Aida and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
