Akiro

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 10 months

Akiro Since: October 2026 Estimated age: born around January 2026 Estimated final shoulder height: around 40-59 cm Estimated final weight: 20-35 kg Earliest release date: 31.10. Meet Akiro here in the video! Akiro is a friendly and affectionate dog who is looking forward to meeting you. He was rescued from a killing station and taken in by the animal shelter. You can find more information about how dogs end up in the shelter and answers to general questions in our animal welfare FAQ. In the killing station, Akiro showed himself to be a calm, reserved male. In his kennel, he appears much more lively, jumping up to the caregivers when they enter. He is open and friendly and also enjoys being petted. He sometimes tries to get all the attention for himself, but if his kennel mates push him away, he lets go of the caregivers. Otherwise, he gets along well with the other dogs so far. Akiro currently shows himself to be strong-willed and demanding. If you want more information about this furry friend, please contact our placement team. If nothing matches the furry, please delete the entire container. We suspect that HUNDENAME is a Herdenschutzhund (HSH). Please inform yourself here about the requirements for adopting a Herdenschutzhund. HSH mixes are often very independent and need a confident leadership. HUNDENAME has a cropped ear/two cropped ears/a cropped tail. Many dogs in Romania have these cut off to make the animals look more dangerous. HUNDENAME has a short tail. It is unclear whether his/her tail was cropped or is congenital. HUNDENAME is currently underweight. On the street or in killing stations, the animals usually get little to no food, so they become very thin. However, the animal shelter is now feeding our furry friend more food and he will hopefully soon be at a normal weight again. HUNDENAME was ill with parvovirus. Fortunately, the little one survived the virus. Our placement team knows the exact health status best. If you have any questions, please send us a message. Young dogs should not have to grow up in an animal shelter. That's why we urgently need a loving home or an experienced foster home for this little furry friend - a place where he can discover the world, build trust and simply be a puppy. Anyone who adopts a young dog should be aware of how demanding everyday life with a young dog can be: As soon as house training is done, the "wild puberty" often starts - full of energy, uncertainties and new challenges. The first years of life are an exciting journey that humans and dogs go through together - with ups and downs and many learning moments. We wish for our strong-willed Akiro experienced people with patience, empathy and perseverance - and with the understanding that animal shelter dogs often already have a certain history. How exactly they react to the new life in Germany can never be fully predicted. But one thing is certain: Anyone who adopts instead of buying not only gives a second chance to an animal, but also actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by their side. Are you already in love? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you are considering adoption, please first read through the placement process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated and neutered (except for puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs) before release. In addition, dogs older than 1 year are tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, please write to our placement team.

About Akiro

What life with Akiro looks like

Akiro is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Akiro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Akiro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Akiro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Akiro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Akiro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Akiro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Akiro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
