Venezia

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

Hündin Venezia, estimated age: born around April 2022, estimated shoulder height: around 40-49 cm, estimated weight: around 14-19 kg. Meet Venezia in the video! Venezia is a female dog looking for her safe haven! We rescued Venezia from a killing station in Romania as a puppy. We don't know much about her life before rescue, but we do know she likely didn't have an easy start. She was very fearful and reserved around people for a long time. She found it hard to get close to people and would seek shelter in her hut when things got too much. But Venezia shows us she has so much more to offer. Thanks to the loving patience and training of our caregivers, she has made great progress in recent months. She now comes out of her hut on her own, moves around the kennel in the presence of people, and even eats near them. A special moment was her trip to the playground. Venezia walked around independently for a while, followed her dog friends, and even let people touch her gently. She remained calm on the way back. These small steps are huge successes for Venezia. Venezia is a gentle and peaceful dog who gets along very well with other dogs. She looks to her fellow dogs for safety. A confident and social first dog could be a valuable support for her in her new home. Venezia needs people who give her time and celebrate her small successes. People who show her that she doesn't have to do anything to be loved. With patience, security, and a lot of heart, Venezia can learn that the world can be a beautiful place. We wish Venezia a quiet, experienced home where she can arrive at her own pace. People with experience with fearful dogs, a lot of patience, and a safe environment would be ideal for her. Hectic and loud situations still unsettle her, which is why a relaxed daily routine is especially important. Venezia doesn't have to be brave right away. She can learn step by step to trust and discover how beautiful a home of her own can be. We hope for people who understand that rescue dogs come with a certain history. We can never predict how a dog will react to life in Germany at the shelter. That's why we look for people who have patience, perseverance, and goodwill. But one thing is certain: adopting instead of buying not only gives a second chance to an animal, but also actively decides against animal suffering - and for a life with a very special companion by your side. In love yet? Send us a self-disclosure! Adoption If you're thinking about adoption, first read through the adoption process. All dogs are vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, flea-treated, and neutered before departure (except for puppies up to 6 months and very old dogs). Dogs older than 1 year are also tested for Mediterranean diseases. If you have any questions, feel free to message our placement team.

About Venezia

What life with Venezia looks like

Venezia is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Hunderettung Europa e.V. in Duisburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Venezia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Venezia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hunderettung Europa e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Venezia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Venezia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hunderettung Europa e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Venezia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Venezia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hunderettung Europa e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Venezia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
