Cautionary Beauty Seeks Cozy Sofa Hello, my name is Alba, which means the White or the Light. I would say, that fits. Together with my buddy Caspar, we recently moved into the animal shelter. Oh dear, everything is new, foreign, and loud. Thank goodness, we were two, otherwise, I wouldn't have made it. The first few days, a veterinary assistant came every evening and sat with us. She spoke kindly to us and explained the world. I didn't understand a word, after all, I come from Romania, but the tone was so soothing. Now we are attached to the people and snuggle up, as if there were no tomorrow. But what do they want from us. Walks, for instance - say, we do have legs. But apparently, here a transfer from A to B is practiced via "air freight," which is comical and not really great. Different countries, different customs. But they have explained that as long as we can't tolerate a collar or harness, that can't happen. On the topic of harnesses: Have you ever had something like that on your body? Very uncomfortable, and teeth could solve the problem, hihihi! LEANLY WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DESTROY THE PARTS. And that's the peak, they also attach something to us. They call it a lead or a house lead. I'll pretend to be dead. I won't walk a single meter with that thing. Caspar seems not to mind, he zips through the enclosure. Typical guy. You'll hear it soon enough … there's a lot to do … I'll pack up. We will continue to report. If you would like to meet me personally, please make an appointment by phone. Animal placements are currently only possible with an appointment. We therefore ask you to contact us by phone at 05481 / 4146 or via email if you are interested in one of our animals.

About Alba

What life with Alba looks like

Alba is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Tecklenburger Land in Lengerich.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Tecklenburger Land handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Tecklenburger Land will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Tecklenburger Land early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
