Alba

Podenco · Female

Our animal shelter caregivers report: the enchanting Podenca mixed-breed female Alba (her former owner called her Bombona) was surrendered by her owner to the shelter because he discovered a large "lump" on her belly and immediately assumed the worst: a fatal tumor. For him, it was a simple choice: either the Refugio takes Alba in or she would end up in the local euthanasia. He seemed to not love his dog, as he surrendered her sick to the shelter and would have even taken her to the euthanasia. The Refugio has naturally taken in Alba (Bombona) and thus given her a chance at a better life. At the vet visit, it turned out: it was not a tumor. Alba (Bombona) had simply suffered an umbilical hernia, which was successfully operated on. On this occasion, Alba was also spayed under anesthesia. Alba (Bombona) shows herself to be a friendly, social female who gets along well with other dogs. She approaches people openly and warmly, apparently the beautiful dog finally wants a reliable two-legged person who is loyal to her.The local animal shelter caregivers describe Alba's fur as very special: it is really golden and, depending on the light, an unfathomable, tiger-like pattern shines through it, which fascinates the animal caregivers again and again. Something that photos can hardly capture correctly and that you really have to see for yourself. Now all Alba (Bombona) needs to be happy is a home with the right people. People with heart, patience, and a sincere desire to finally give a special dog security and love. In the new home, a nice dog is also welcome. Who wants to show Alba that her first owner was a bad exception and that there are also characteristically good, responsible, and loyal people who value, love, care about her well-being, and welcome her as a real family member? About Alba

What life with Alba looks like

Alba is a large adult podenco dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Alba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
