Felix

Podenco · Male · Young · 3 years

Felix is an approximately 3-year-old Podenco Maneto who came to Germany as a street dog when young. With his large “bat ears” and alert gaze, he wins many hearts immediately – but Felix is not a dog for everyone. Felix belongs to the sensitive character types. He is very insecure, has a low threshold for stimuli, and reacts quickly with jumping behaviors in stressful situations. If something becomes too much for him or he feels cornered, it can happen that he snaps; once, he even bit someone’s leg. Therefore, he needs people who can read his body language, take him seriously, and provide him with a calm, structured environment. Pressure – whether verbal or physical – strongly upsets Felix. With calm, clear guidance, however, he can cooperate well. He masters the basic commands reliably. He is also familiar with bus, train, and subway rides, which certainly ease his daily life. Currently, Felix finds it hard to be alone: he barks a lot and does not settle down well. Here, his future people must be ready to train in small steps. With other dogs, he is compatible depending on his affinity. He also knows cats. Additionally, Felix has a food allergy, which requires some attention to his diet. What Felix is looking for: A quiet home without small children, with dog-experienced people who have patience, can provide clear structures, and enjoy giving a sensitive dog security. People who are willing to work on his insecurity, give him time, and sometimes take two steps back when Felix needs it. Those who give him this stability will get a loyal, clever, and charming companion who – when he feels secure – can be a real sunbeam.

DE·Show original

About Felix

What life with Felix looks like

Felix is a medium-sized young adult podenco dog waiting at Tierheim Ulm in Ulm.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Felix, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Felix?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ulm handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Felix on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Felix if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ulm will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Felix already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Felix isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ulm early rather than rehoming privately; they know Felix and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
