Adopt Alberto

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

a special dog with a moving story and a very big heart. I am about 9 years old, approximately 33 cm tall, weigh 11 kg, and thus belong to the handy dogs. I was found severely injured on a property after being hit by a car. Subsequent examinations revealed that my hip was shattered, one eye was missing, and a BB pellet was lodged in my body – a sad indication that I have had some tough experiences in my life. Additionally, I tested positive for leishmaniasis, a Mediterranean disease that is well treatable with medication and a tailored diet. Despite these handicaps, I have fought and never given up! My hip and eye have been surgically treated, and I receive regular physiotherapy, which helps me a lot. I can walk independently, bravely master my daily life, and enjoy every bit of affection. People say I have a very special and wonderful nature: kind-hearted, gentle, and – miraculously – still full of trust. Furthermore, I am calm and easy-going. What do I wish for? People who can show me how beautiful a protected forever home can be, with warmth, security, and a lot of love. Children can certainly live in my home, but ideally they should be a bit older (around 8 years and up). Upon my arrival, I am vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and I come with my EU pet passport.

Was ich mir wünsche?

About Alberto

What life with Alberto looks like

Alberto is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alberto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alberto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alberto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alberto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alberto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alberto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Aktion Tierisch Happy e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alberto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
