Adopt Alberto

Podenco · Male · Puppy · 11 months

GPAR Input April 11, 2026: Alberto was rescued in February 2026 in the countryside near Rute by the Guardia Civil. He was found alone in the olive groves, searching for food and water. When he first arrived at the rescue centre, Alberto was understandably nervous and shy. Yet, in recent months, he has blossomed beautifully. With time, patience, and the company of his kennel mate Curro - with whom he enjoys walking every Monday and Thursday - Alberto has found a nice routine. Initially unsure about the leash, Alberto has grown into a confident and relaxed walker. He now walks beautifully on a leash, is not disturbed by traffic or everyday sounds, and is an absolute pleasure to walk - no pulling, just friendly company. Alberto has a loving and affectionate nature. He loves attention and cuddles, and when volunteers come, he is often one of the first to run to the terrace to greet everyone. He especially enjoys playing with the other dogs - tug-of-war, preferably with blankets, is a favorite. Alberto, a typical young Podenco, is full of life and curiosity. He enjoys being outside, exploring, sniffing and taking in the world around him. His medium size makes him flexible - he would be equally happy in a city or on the countryside. He will probably need some support with house training, as he lives in a kennel environment at the animal shelter. With patience, consistency and positive reinforcement, he will quickly learn what is expected at home. He will also need time to relax and adapt to his new environment, as well as to learn the routine of his new family. Giving him space, understanding and a gentle introduction to daily life will help him settle and thrive. Alberto would be a wonderful addition to a loving home, whether with other dogs or children, or as a beloved companion on his own. All he needs right now is a family he can call his own. Could you be the one to give Alberto the loving home he has been waiting for?

About Alberto

What life with Alberto looks like

Alberto is a medium-sized puppy/kitten podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alberto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alberto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alberto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alberto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alberto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alberto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alberto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
