Update 4 September 2025: Leon is still a bit shy around strangers, but he does have a new video! Update 4 July 2025: Leon remains the same as before. Good with other dogs and good with volunteers. He even lets them pet him without any problem. He still stays very alert around strangers and keeps a close eye on them. Update 3 November 2024: León's shyness around people has decreased over time. A few days ago, adopters came to the animal shelter and León surprised us by slowly coming closer to sniff them and let them pet him. He loves having a nice blanket and toys, and he hides them in his kennel run. León is an independent dog and doesn't need other dogs to be happy. He is affectionate with people, but not overly so; he doesn't like being overwhelmed with cuddles or kisses. He has no problems with other dogs. When León is ready to be adopted, he needs a very calm family without small children, but one where he receives lots of love. Update 28 October 2024: 5 new photos added. Update 17 August 2023: 3 new photos and a new video added. Input 1 November 2021: Another "discard" from the hunting in Spain... this poor animal has already had three different owners. The first was a hunter, the second was also a hunter but when this person realized that Leon was afraid of people and the sound of shooting, he gave Leon to the next owner for secret / illegal breeding. This breeder initially wanted to breed Leon but now says that Leon is too big. Furthermore, he told us that Leon is really scared of other dogs and that he had to keep him behind a fence all the time because his other dogs would constantly bother him. When this last owner told us that we could take Leon, we immediately went to rescue him. On 12 May 2021, we picked him up and Leon was indeed afraid of everything: dogs, people, a lot of noise. But within 24 hours, after you were at the animal shelter, you could already see on his head that he had changed. He was completely relaxed and wagged his tail. We are convinced that he thought: this is my place, I like it here, I feel positive energy, I can wander around and I'm not tied up, no one is shouting at me and everyone treats me well. Maisha, who has been with us for so long, is now his best friend and everything is going very well. He likes running around with everyone else. He doesn't like being inside his fenced area, he prefers to just roam freely. Meanwhile, we can even pet him without any problem, but we have to be very careful, gentle and not too fast, he no longer runs away. Leon needs a nice family over time, he has never had someone who loved him, so this is a feeling he doesn't know. And this lovely puppy just needs a lot of love. But Leon is not ready to be adopted yet, which is why we made him a VIP, so that he can be worked with calmly until he is truly ready to go to his own family. The family with whom Leon will find his eternal love, the family that will give him all the love he has missed his entire life.

Een video waarop te zien is dat Leon voorzichtig geniet van aanraking en liefkozingen, goed bezig lieve Leon! Hij vindt het heerlijk om een goede deken en speeltjes te hebben, hij verstopt ze in zijn kennel. León is een zelfstandige hond en heeft geen andere honden nodig om gelukkig te zijn. Hij is aanhankelijk met mensen, maar niet overdreven, hij wordt niet graag overstelpt met liefkozingen of knuffels. Met andere honden heeft hij geen problemen. Als León er straks aan toe is om geadopteerd te worden heeft hij een heel rustig gezin nodig zonder kleine kinderen maar wel een plek waar hij heel veel liefde krijgt. Input 1 november 2021: Alweer een “afdankertje” van de jacht in Spanje… dit arme dier heeft al drie verschillende eigenaren gehad. De eerste was een jager, de tweede was ook een jager maar toen deze zich realiseerde dat Leon bang was voor mensen en voor het geluid van het schieten gaf hij Leon weg aan de volgende eigenaar voor geheime/illegale fok. Deze fokker wilde in eerste instantie met Leon fokken maar nu zegt hij dat Leon te groot is. Verder vertelde hij ons dat Leon echt bang is voor de andere honden en dat hij hem de hele tijd achter een hek moest houden omdat zijn andere honden hem anders de hele tijd zouden pesten. Toen deze laatste eigenaar ons liet weten dat we Leon mochten ophalen, zijn we er meteen heen gegaan om hem te redden. Op 12 mei 2021 hebben we hem opgehaald en Leon was inderdaad bang voor alles: honden, mensen, veel lawaai. Maar binnen 24 uur, nadat jij in het asiel was, kon je al aan zijn kopje zien dat hij veranderd was. Hij was helemaal ontspannen en stak zijn staart omhoog. We zijn ervan overtuigd dat hij dacht: dit is mijn plek, ik vind het hier leuk, ik voel positieve energie, ik kan ronddwalen en ik ben niet vastgebonden, niemand schreeuwt tegen me en iedereen behandelt me goed. Maisha, die al zo lang bij ons is, is nu zijn beste vriend en alles gaat heel goed. Hij rent graag rond met alle anderen. Hij houdt er niet van om binnen zijn omheinde terrein te zijn, hij loopt het liefst gewoon vrij rond. Ondertussen kunnen we hem zelfs zonder problemen aaien, maar we moeten wel heel voorzichtig, zacht en zeker niet te snel doen, hij loopt niet meer weg. Leon heeft met de tijd een leuk gezin nodig, hij heeft nog nooit iemand gehad die van hem hield, dus dit is een gevoel dat hij niet kent. En dit lieve hondje heeft gewoon heel veel liefde nodig. Maar Leon is er nu nog niet aan toe om geadopteerd te worden dus vandaar dat we hem een VIP gemaakt hebben, zodat er rustig met hem gewerkt kan worden totdat hij echt zover is om naar zijn eigen familie te gaan. De familie bij wie Leon zijn eeuwige liefde zal vinden, de familie die hem alle liefde zal geven waar het hem zijn hele leven aan heeft ontbroken.
