Adopt Albis

Male · Young · 3 years

Albis shows himself in the camp as a confident and character-strong dog. Outside of the camp, however, he is sometimes still insecure and reacts fearfully – especially during encounters with bicycles. He already travels in the car quite relaxed, and walking on a leash also works fairly well for him. However, what he still doesn’t know is how to climb stairs. We wish experienced people for Albis who are familiar with the special characteristics of herding dogs and appreciate them. It is also important that his future trusted people are willing to continue working with him – especially to ensure that he no longer reacts to passing cars and tries to chase them. Albis is a loving and cheerful dog; he simply wants to play with everyone and be a friend. He still has a lot to learn about manners and dog ABC. He still plays very rough with both people and other dogs. Recently, he has been living together again with his mother Bella in the enclosure, and we hope he learns a bit more self-control from her. The right people for him are patient but also active adults who have the time and joy to teach Albis dog ABC and channel his life joy better. Dominant male dogs intimidate him, and he is very tense around them. However, he tries to avoid problems. The local helpers describe him as "a little child in a big body." Albis has never lived in a home. We think a home with enough space is important for him. Since the sensory overload for dogs from the camp is very high in a normal home, it will take the first few months a lot of calm and routine for the dogs. The mother dog Bella gave birth to 13 healthy puppies on September 30, 2022, in a melampopouch. Bella lived on the street before and was rescued before giving birth to the puppies. All the puppies are growing up together with their mother. They are healthy, happy, and playful. They are vaccinated and dewormed. Potential owners should be aware that a puppy brings a lot of joy but also a lot of work and requires more time and patience. The 13 puppies are growing up in the animal shelter and have never lived in a home, so they are not familiar with household noises and routines. Accordingly, it will take a lot of time, patience, and empathy to get them used to everything new and build their upbringing from the ground up. For people who bring all these prerequisites, it is certainly a great chance to welcome a dog into their life from the beginning. In January 2023, the little rascals will be microchipped and vaccinated against rabies, so they will be ready for transport on January 27, 2023. The names of the 13 siblings:. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

About Albis

What life with Albis looks like

Albis is a extra-large young adult dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Albis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Albis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Albis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Albis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Albis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Albis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Albis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
