Alea

Great Dane · Female · Young · 3 years

Alea is seeking a dog-friendly home with dog-experienced people. She is currently at the animal shelter because living with the second dog no longer works, she struggles with the stressful city life, and we are simply overwhelmed with her. At her age, she is going through puberty and testing her limits, which can sometimes result in a sudden burst of dog power directed at someone "out of the blue." She has issues with unfamiliar people and dogs, and she doesn't particularly enjoy veterinary check-ups. While on a leash, her regular walking is still very much in need of improvement. However, despite all this, she can still become a great dog. Therefore, we are really looking for dog-experienced people who have the necessary knowledge and enthusiasm to guide Alea in the right direction. In training, she shows great willingness to learn; she wants to do everything right. However, she is easily distracted and reaches her threshold of excitement quickly. A quiet, rural environment would be ideal for the agile female dog. We would not recommend children or cats, although she is familiar with both. With stable male dogs of her size, she gets along well if the chemistry is right. Please send us a substantive email if you are interested, as Alea does not enjoy spontaneous visits.

DE·Show original

About Alea

What life with Alea looks like

Alea is a medium-sized young adult great dane dog waiting at Tierheimverein Erfurt in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alea, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alea?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheimverein Erfurt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alea on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alea if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheimverein Erfurt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alea already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alea isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheimverein Erfurt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alea and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
