Alex

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Alex (born approx. 2019) stands about 50 cm at the shoulder and lived for over three and a half years at the Campurelu shelter – and in all that time he did not receive a single adoption inquiry. For many years he waited in Campurelu. Meanwhile he has moved to another private shelter in Izvoru, where we hope he will be able to build closer bonds with people. No one knows what he went through before we discovered him at the shelter. Alex is a handsome, gentle male with a warm coat color, friendly and free of any aggression, but hope seems to have slipped away from him – he is very shy. He can only be tempted out of his kennel with especially good food and prefers to keep his distance while visitors are in the enclosure. For sensitive people with patience and a big heart, however, Alex could become a loyal companion if he is given time to learn to trust. Who will finally give him a home or a foster placement so that he can feel the joy of life again? Alex is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and will be placed with a protection contract following a positive pre-adoption check. General note about our dogs: Our dogs in Romania are visited regularly so that we can continually reassess their behavior and development. These personal impressions help us greatly in presenting each individual dog as accurately as possible. However, we would like to point out that a dog may behave differently in a new environment – with new people, new routines, and new impressions. This is completely normal and part of every process of change. Many dogs open up even faster in a home and show sides that were not visible at the shelter at all. Our assessments are therefore based on current observations, but they are not a guarantee of any particular behavior in a new environment. They are meant to provide guidance and show how the dog presents itself at the shelter – and what potential lies within it. We are convinced that with patience, understanding, and a loving environment, every dog can find its way and continue to develop positively.

About Alex

What life with Alex looks like

Alex is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alex, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alex?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alex on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alex if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Alex already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alex isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alex and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
