Adopt Alexa

Female

Alexa is friendly, independent, and does not always want to be fussed over. She arrived at the animal shelter as a foundling from a feeding station. During her dental procedure, an inherited heart defect was discovered. Alexa has a Ventricular Septrum Defect, a hole in the heart. Her life expectancy is not high. At the moment, she is doing well, taking a heart tablet once daily. She is compatible with some fellow animals but does not need a partner. The living space should be large, and we have found that Alexa does indeed need some freedom. She is very stressed by the confinement here and would also like to scratch if the situation becomes too stressful. Children under five and dogs should not live in the household. Alexa has heart failure! In this video, you will receive basic information about the condition. Warning: The video clip does not replace an individual consultation! For further information, we are of course happy to assist you. Health care: What vaccinations are necessary, and what can I do to ensure my cat lives a long and healthy life? In this video, you will receive an initial overview. Feeding tips: Watch this video if you want to learn more about the right diet for your cats. The video is intended to summarize the most important information. We are of course available for further information. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Alexa

What life with Alexa looks like

Alexa is a small adult cat waiting at Tierheim Hannover in Hannover.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

Note from the shelter: Heart condition - ventricular septal defect requiring daily medication, reduced life expectancy, needs outdoor access

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alexa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alexa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hannover handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alexa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alexa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hannover will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alexa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alexa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hannover early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alexa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
