Adopt Alexa

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 6 months

Hunting dog fans should now be very attentive, because here comes a real rough diamond - Alexa is in the house! We don't even want to think about how a 6-month-old (as of 10/2022) female Deutsch-Kurzhaar came alone on the country road. The stories about the Spanish hunters, their breeding habits and the way they cull their dogs are well known, and we are simply glad that Alexa was reported to the animal shelter in Linares and now has the best chances to start a wonderful life as a beloved family dog. Alexa was initially very quiet and just observed the events at the animal shelter for a while, but she is now a textbook teenager, funny, curious, cheeky and lively. The funny hunting dog girl has found many friends among the young dogs in the run, because she plays endurance and fairly, but she also gets along well with the older four-legged friends, because she (like many representatives of her breed) communicates very clearly and readily accepts it when she is corrected if an adult dog does not want to play at the moment. Alexa is a young, highly intelligent hunting dog that definitely is not suited for being a couch potato. However, someone looking for an enduring athlete, a working dog who learns quickly and also turns into a cuddly bear during breaks can fulfill a dream with Alexa. Our heartbreaker is already a very balanced and attentive character for her delicate age, a talent that works and learns concentrated and willing. For a bright mind like our lovable young girl, the animal shelter is quite boring. Alexa wants to run, search, jump alongside her family - and above all, Alexa wants to please. Our funny floppy ear will do almost anything for a kind word, a cookie or a pat. We wish for Alexa an active, humorous family who loves her dearly and maybe even grants her a spot on the couch where she can spread her wet kisses and sleep through the crime show or sports broadcast snoring quietly next to her best friends.

About Alexa

What life with Alexa looks like

Alexa is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alexa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alexa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alexa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alexa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alexa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alexa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alexa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
