Alfa

Mixed Breed · Female

German Shepherd fans, take note! Here comes our dream girl Alfa! Alfa belongs to a young girl who loves her female dog very much, but the family of the young woman does not allow the animal to be kept in the house. In regular intervals, the relatives bring Alfa to the animal shelter, and her owner picks her up again - and this has been happening for more than years now. Alfa is an unbelievable clever girl, who enjoys nothing more than learning new tricks and working with her favorite people. The constant back and forth as well as the lack of time of her owner are a disaster for the attentive and cheerful character of this wonderful being. When Alfa last came to the facility of our friends from Dolmen Animal, the animal welfare workers spoke openly with the young owner, and because she really loves Alfa and only wants the best for her friend, she agreed that Alfa may stay in the boarding facility until the right family is found for her. Alfa is a very friendly dog, she gets along very well with other four-legged animals and likes children. But our brilliant princess is still not a dog for everyone. Alfa was not properly occupied for many years, yet she is already very obedient and learns new things at an impressive speed every day. Therefore, she needs (finally) people by her side who can see, support and challenge her diverse talents - and who also understand a lot about cuddling and affection, because Alfa is an especially gifted example in this area as well. We could easily imagine that Alfa could become a star on the dog sports field, she is also suitable for tracking, but she basically just needs a family that wants to spend a lot of time with her and appreciates her bright mind as much as her athleticism and her gentle side. If you have fallen in love with Alfa, please contact us, and soon the beautiful shepherd dog may conquer your heart and your home!

Schäferhund-Fans aufgepasst!

About Alfa

What life with Alfa looks like

Alfa is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alfa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alfa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alfa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alfa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alfa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alfa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alfa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
