24-07-26 Alfie is a wonderful older man who was originally adopted from us and has sadly found himself back in our care after spending many years in a home. He is now looking for a very special retirement home where he can enjoy all the comforts he loves. As Alfie has got older, he has developed a few age-related quirks. He can become a little confused at night and, during a recent adoption, found it difficult to settle, often pacing and becoming restless. Since returning to us, we have found a routine that helps him feel safe and secure, and he now settles well to sleep in a crate. For this reason, his new home will need to provide him with a quiet space where he can rest undisturbed, and we would like his adopters to continue this routine. Alfie is an early riser and is usually awake around 6am, although he has been making lovely progress with settling quietly for a little longer each morning. Once he's up, he still has a real spring in his step! He gets wonderfully excited when it's time for a walk and can be quite vocal while his lead is being put on, but as soon as he's out and about he is the perfect gentleman. He walks beautifully, enjoys exploring, and is friendly with everyone he meets, both people and dogs. Despite being an older gentleman, Alfie still loves getting out and about and enjoys keeping busy. A good walk and plenty of things to keep his mind occupied help him settle well afterwards, and once he's had his exercise there's nothing he loves more than curling up on the sofa for a cuddle. Alfie gets on well with other dogs and could happily live with calm canine companions. Equally, he is quite an independent little chap and would also be perfectly content as the only dog in the home. Like many older dogs, Alfie has become very enthusiastic about his food. He can be a little grabby with treats and has occasionally grumbled around mealtimes, but this has never escalated and is easily managed by feeding him separately from other dogs and allowing him to enjoy his meals in peace. Alfie is a truly special little boy who has stolen the hearts of everyone at the rescue. He is looking for a kind and understanding family who will embrace his little quirks, continue the routine that helps him thrive, and give him all the love, comfort and adventures he still enjoys. In return, they will gain a happy, affectionate companion who still has so much love to give. This dog can be homed with a resident dog. This dog can be homed with cats.
