Adopt Alfie

German Shepherd · Male · Adult · 4 years

Meet Alfie. a German Shepherd. He has the cutest bent ear and a sought after straight back. Alfie is great with humans and loves a cuddle. He treats everyone like a long lost friend, Although Alfie has always been with other dogs, we would ideally like Alfie to be the only dog due to his size.. Alfie is very intelligent and loves to please. He is learning to be obedient on the lead so someone who is strong or has experience of big dogs is required. He's met children on walks and he's been ok. But never spent anytime with small children therefore we are looking for a home with no children or older children only. Alfie does not like cats AT ALL and is extremely reactive, so we will not rehome him to a household that includes cats. Please contact us if you would like more information on Alfie.

About Alfie

What life with Alfie looks like

Alfie is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Axarquia Animal Rescue.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alfie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alfie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Axarquia Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alfie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alfie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Axarquia Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alfie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alfie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Axarquia Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alfie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
