Alfie

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Cute Alfie is such an affectionate, quirky little character who is looking for a calm, experienced and adult home with the help of Doodle Trust and is currently in foster care in Staffordshire. In the right home, Alfie will be a devoted, affectionate companion who brings joy, character and plenty of entertainment, especially when he starts bouncing like a spring. Alfie is a Cavapoochon and is 8 years old, measuring 13″ to the withers. He is a bright and affectionate little lad with a big personality and an even bigger jump; his foster family say he springs into the air like Zebedee when he’s excited, especially at walk time or when dinner is on the way. He’s a sweet, eager-to-please boy who loves being close to his person and thrives on companionship, routine, and gentle reassurance. Most of the time, Alfie is calm and settled indoors. He’ll happily potter around with you, then take himself off to a cosy spot for a snooze. He’s housetrained, non-destructive and can be left for a couple of hours without fuss. Alfie is a sensitive soul who bonds strongly with his person. He’s vocal in an endearing way; he has a whole repertoire of excited whines and chirrups to express himself. He’s reasonably obedient, comes when called and is bright enough to enjoy simple tasks such as fetching his blanket. Alfie enjoys his walks and loves a good sniff and ramble, but he’s equally content relaxing at home afterwards. He can pull on the lead when something catches his interest (a strong smell, a cat, another dog), but he’s manageable with an experienced handler. Although Alfie is friendly and polite when meeting dogs out on walks, he does not enjoy sharing his home. He is currently living with other dogs in foster and has made it clear he would prefer not to. He has growled and snapped at the larger dogs and, while he avoids the feisty little one, it’s clear that a peaceful, single-dog home would suit him best. He is not good with cats. Alfie can be wary of strangers and may growl or snap when he feels overwhelmed or unsure. He did this a couple of times in the first days of foster, which is understandable given the upheaval he’d experienced. As he has settled, this behaviour has reduced. Some types of handling still make him uncomfortable, but he is improving with patience and consistency. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ If you think you have loving Alfie's forever home, please contact Doodle Trust as follows: Email: Or complete their online adoption enquiry form . About Alfie

What life with Alfie looks like

Alfie is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at The Oldies Club in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alfie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alfie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Oldies Club handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alfie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alfie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Oldies Club will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alfie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alfie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Oldies Club early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alfie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
