Alfie

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 7 years

Earth Dragons Dog Sanctuary in Ashford, Kent are looking for an understanding and loving home for gorgeous boy Alfie. He is a 7yr old cross breed smallish boy who originated from Romania and is now in the UK looking forward to a future where he can get home comforts and lots of treats ! Sweet Alfie is a nervous boy and takes a while to feel he can trust people and feel relaxed in new surroundings. After a month at the rescue he is really starting to shine. At the moment he is definitely a dog's dog and enjoys the company of other doggy chums. He would really like to live with another confident doggy friend from whom he could watch and learn. He can show resource guarding and so dinner time should be managed carefully with Alfie being fed separately if rehomed with another dog, especially a male dog. Alfie is not a cuddly dog (yet), but he gets so excited when he sees the volunteers, but that could be because it means food or walkies ! He never shows that he is looking for strokes or cuddles, but in time this could change once he knows he can trust his new people. Alfie really loves his walks, but can sometimes get a bit overwhelmed. He is wary and scared around traffic so would suit a home in a rural/semi rural area where he can walk without having to encounter busy areas. Currently he is getting 4 x 15 minutes a day to gradually build up his walkies time. He is happy to be left in his kennel, so it's felt that he will be fine to be left alone in the home. It is not known how Alfie behaves travelling in a car. As he is a nervous boy, any children need to be sensible, calm and aged 14yrs+ Alfie did have to see the vet as he had an abscess which needed treatment. He really didn't like the vets and nipped them as he was frightened and in much pain, but he has shown no aggression towards any0ne else since he arrived. This special boy would so appreciate finding caring, patient new humans who can see the potential in this little chap. With time, understanding, and lots of love, he can begin to learn to trust people and show everyone the wonderful boy he is. If you can give loving Alfie his forever home, or would like to find out more, please contact Earth Dragons Dog Sanctuary below: Email : Please say that you saw Alfie on Oldies Club website

About Alfie

What life with Alfie looks like

Alfie is an adult mixed breed dog waiting at The Oldies Club in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alfie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alfie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Oldies Club handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alfie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alfie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Oldies Club will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Alfie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alfie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Oldies Club early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alfie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
