Almando

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Almando was picked up by the Animal Police on the streets of Romania and is now in the Public Shelter of Baia Mare in a kennel. Nobody knows where he exactly comes from. His last home was the streets of Romania – a place full of dangers, loneliness and uncertainty. Maybe he was simply abandoned and had to fend for himself from one day to the next, or he has always had to live on the streets, sneaking around, searching for food and a safe place to sleep, while fighting to survive every day. What he must have experienced and done to survive, we can hardly imagine. Maybe he hid from loud noises and strangers, maybe he went hungry and hoped that someone would notice him – until the Animal Police finally found him and brought him to the shelter. Almando is a beautiful, large black dog with a charming white patch on his chest and warm, brown eyes that go straight to your heart. He is about a year old, has a shoulder height of approximately 60 cm and impresses with his athletic and elegant stature. Unfortunately, he has a shortened tail, which does not restrict him in any way, which is why he is not allowed to be relocated to Switzerland. Almando is a friendly and people-oriented boy who likes to be with his people. He has a lot of energy and is full of joie de vivre – so much so that he sometimes jumps up in excitement. He gets along with female dogs, but his behavior towards other male dogs is still unknown. When Almando moves into his new home, everything will be new for him: new smells, new sounds, new people, new rules. He has to learn everything anew – from leash training to staying alone without getting anxious. Especially because he comes from the shelter and has had other experiences so far, he needs people who will support him with loving and consistent upbringing. A positively working dog school would be a great asset for him: There he can not only learn, but also strengthen his self-confidence and deepen the bond with his people. At about one year of age, Almando is in the middle of puberty. This means: He tests boundaries, is sometimes more turbulent and unruly than before, and his brain is currently busy developing into an adult dog brain. This is completely normal and should be taken with a grain of humor. In this phase, he needs especially a lot of patience, clear rules and above all: people who do not give up on him when he is difficult. With the right guidance, he will become a great, balanced companion. Almando is young, athletic and full of energy – he needs physical and mental stimulation to be happy. Long walks, search games, trick training or agility elements: A dog like Almando wants to be challenged so that he does not get bored. Exercise strengthens not only his body, but also his bond with his people and helps him to balance himself internally. We wish Almando a loving and experienced home – people who understand his past, accompany his puberty with humor and patience, and give him the time and space to become the great dog that is in him. He has so much to give. Who gives him the chance to finally arrive and feel what it means to really be at home? If you are interested, please contact us or fill out the self-disclosure form. We also cordially invite everyone who can offer a foster home to contact us. Your support and willingness to give a dog in need a temporary loving home is a great help to us and the animals. Almando travels neutered, vaccinated, chipped, dewormed and flea-free. He will be relocated for a deposit and with a valid EU pet passport. Do you want to get to know Almando? Then contact us – we look forward to your message! We thank Sarah C.! You have given Almando his name and thus a personal identity. Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 27.07.2026

About Almando

What life with Almando looks like

Almando is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Almando, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Almando?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Almando on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Almando if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Almando already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Almando isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Almando and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
