adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Ferdinand has found his home! 44139 Dortmund. Ferdinand can travel to his foster home in December! His story: Cluj, Romania. Without Ferdinand, everything is boring. The forest is boring. The meadow is boring. Going for a walk is boring. Coming home is boring. Whoever responds to this lovely treasure will bring happiness home. Ferdinand is estimated to be around 1.5 years old. His shoulder height is about 55 cm and he weighs around 30 kg. You might think now: oh oh the puberty with a larger dog… But our Ferdinand is a gentle and quiet companion who has already passed through that phase. He loves his trusted people more than anything and enjoys great activities with them. He already runs well on a leash and gets along super with other dogs. We do not know his compatibility with cats. Ferdinand is super friendly, open, and ready to start a new life. He just wants to go out and explore the world step by step together. We wish Ferdinand a wonderful family where he can settle in and experience a lot. He is a great, relaxed dog who so deserves to find a family. A positively reinforcing training style will support his development. Additionally, we also recommend attending a dog training class where dog and human learn together. Once you have Ferdinand by your side, you have a loyal companion and a wonderful friend. If you want to take in the awesome male dogs to share your life with him and experience adventures together, then sign up via the self-disclosure form! He will be neutered, dewormed, microchipped, vaccinated, and treated for fleas when moving into his forever home, and he will of course bring his EU pet passport with him. Heartfelt thanks to the godmother Amelie for the wonderful name Ferdinand!

About Ferdinand

What life with Ferdinand looks like

Ferdinand is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ferdinand, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ferdinand?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ferdinand on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ferdinand if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ferdinand already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ferdinand isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ferdinand and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
