Adopt Alva

Beagle · Female · Young · 1 year

I am Alva … I was found and am a little raw diamond looking for a great, dog-experienced home. This is me: I am a loving little girl-dog – but simply still untrained. That was probably not addressed in my supposed previous home. But I am eager to learn, am good with treats as motivation, and will definitely be your world’s best four-legged companion once I master the dog ABCs. I have a lot of energy and want to be fully utilized – I am already looking forward to shared adventures and lots of movement, training, and closeness. I do not really like other dogs; I was probably not properly socialized there. So I also need training in that area. I also like to spring up to people who are walking by, run after moving things like excavators or bicycles, and just generally pester other animals. But I wear my muzzle well and already walk nicely on a leash when no other dogs are around. I love trusted people very much – with strangers, I am initially mistrustful. What I need is simply someone who helps me become a real dog and trains me – a dog training class would also be great. I wish for … a home that is happy to work with me and show me how great life as part of a human-dog team can be. There is a lot of potential in me and I am looking forward to showing it. My new home should be more quiet or rural and not in the bustling city. Kids are not for me. Would we perhaps go through life together?

About Alva

What life with Alva looks like

Alva is a medium-sized young adult beagle dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin in Berlin.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires muzzle training, not socialized with other dogs, reactive to moving objects

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alva, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alva?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alva on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alva if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alva already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alva isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alva and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
