Alvie

Labrador Retriever · Male · Young · 2 years

Adorable Alvie is able to be left home alone for around 4 hours once he is settled. As a typical Lab, he does love his food so he is eager to learn tricks for some tasty treats! Alvie is also not the biggest fan of the car, so wouldn't be keen to plan any big road trips at the moment. Alvie has some ongoing medical requirements that our vet team can discuss in more detail with his future family. He would love to meet his family several times at the centre, and have some sleepovers, before he is adopted to help set him up for success, as he has had multiple homes already. This handsome lad is a huge personality and he is super playful - he's going to make a very rewarding addition to a committed family. Animal Welfare licence number is AWE02, as licenced by Glasgow City Council. Stunning youngster Alvie is a 2 year old Lab who has more energy than he knows what to do with! Our behaviour team would be happy to work alongside his new family to support with these behaviours during and after his adoption. Although Alvie is a very sociable fella, he'd love to make friends whilst out and about on his walks, but he'd be best placed as the only dog in the home at the moment, and to have quick access into a garden space of some sort. This gorgeous golden boy has had an unsettled start in life so is looking for an experienced and dedicated family who can help him thrive.

About Alvie

What life with Alvie looks like

Alvie is a extra-large young adult labrador retriever dog waiting at Dogs Trust Glasgow in Glasgow.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Has ongoing medical requirements that need veterinary discussion

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Alvie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Alvie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Glasgow handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Alvie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Alvie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Glasgow will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Alvie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Alvie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Glasgow early rather than rehoming privately; they know Alvie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
