Amalfi

Dachshund · Male · Puppy

Amalfi was found on the street by a friend of ours who is an animal welfare volunteer. Fortunately, we were able to place him in our puppy and young dog foster home in Hungary, and from there his start toward a much better life is now to begin. Amalfi is a sweet and friendly young male who, at the moment, still sometimes goes through life a little cautiously. In some situations he would rather make himself small at first and see what happens. Even so, he always stays friendly, and at the same time shows that behind his careful exterior there is definitely a curious and interested little guy. You can simply tell that he still lacks a bit of security. But the curiosity is there, and that is already a very good foundation for conquering the world together. In his foster home, Amalfi lives with several young dogs and gets along well with his fellow dogs. Of course, Amalfi still has to learn. Dog basics, everyday rules, leash walking, and all the little and big things that eventually become second nature for a family dog are still on his schedule. His future people should therefore not only enjoy having a young dog, but also bring the patience needed to show him everything calmly. For Amalfi, we wish for a loving home with people who give him a sense of security and guide him confidently through new situations. People who won't wrap him in cotton wool, but who will show him, step by step, that he can rely on his humans. We are quite sure: with some time, loving guidance, and many positive experiences, even the last uncertainties will become smaller, and the still somewhat cautious Amalfi can become a truly wonderful companion who can finally start his happy dog life carefree.

About Amalfi

What life with Amalfi looks like

Amalfi is a small puppy dachshund dog waiting at Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. in Marsberg.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amalfi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amalfi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amalfi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amalfi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Amalfi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amalfi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenhilfe Sauerland e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amalfi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
