Amba &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 3 months

Some stories make me acutely affected because I always wonder if animal protection should start with human protection. We can gather dogs and secure them a beautiful future, but we leave their owners behind, who often mistreated and neglected their animals. But this behavior is often based on their own traumas. We need to start protecting our children and sensitizing them so that they can become responsible adults – then our animal shelters won't be bursting at the seams anymore. Enough philosophizing – here is about an exceptionally beautiful girl named Amba. Green eyes, red nose, big ears, no doubt that Amba carries a significant portion of Podenco genes. Amba came to the shelter as a baby under the care of our friend Puri's refuge, together with her mother Dina and her siblings. The family was taken from a heroin-addicted woman who tried to dispose of the barely a few days old puppies in a trash container. Since the young woman lived with her dogs in a car, she could no longer endure the whimpering of the little ones … Mother Dina received too little food to nurse her puppies. All the dogs were undernourished when they arrived at the animal shelter, but now, at 3 months old (as of September 2024), Amba, just like her sisters, has grown into a well-nourished and playful puppy, healthy and curious, ready to start her new life with a family of her own. Amba is alert and playful, immediately engaging with visitors and enjoying cuddles over everything. She likes to play with her friends and sometimes needs a reminder that she still has to grow – and that includes plenty of rest. Amba is looking for an active family that wants to go through the transition to adulthood with her. Humor and a consistent loving approach to the soon-to-be teenager should be included – and we recommend, as with all our young athletes, a visit to dog training classes. Amba is open to any career that promises enough fun and treats.

About Amba &#8211

What life with Amba &#8211 looks like

Amba &#8211 is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amba &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amba &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amba &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amba &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amba &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amba &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amba &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
