Amelia

Bernese Mountain Dog Β· Female Β· Adult Β· 4 years

Amelia is an incredibly sweet-natured girl with so much love to give! She is fearful around unfamiliar people, so she'll need to be approached slowly and given plenty of time to adjust. She's not a big fan of being handled, so harnessing or clipping up is something that will need some ongoing attention. Amelia will happily graze on her food throughout the day, but doesn't seem overly fussed by treats or toys, preferring to stick near her handlers or doggy friends. With the right, patient people, Amelia should blossom into a wonderful addition to the home. This is Amelia, a sweet, shy girl who takes life at her own pace. She needs a home where her boundaries will be respected, so any children should be of secondary school age or older. Amelia does really well around other dogs, so having a calm, confident dog to live with would be ideal for her. We have no history of Amelia living with other animals, so she may be able to live with other pets pending successful introductions. She seems to have had little to no training in the past, so her adopters will need to be committed to her ongoing development and helping her build confidence. Due to her timid nature, Amelia should have a secure private garden for her to explore without being surprised by unexpected visitors, and she'll need to be kept on lead in public. She has no history of being left by herself, so any time alone should be slowly built up.

About Amelia

What life with Amelia looks like

Amelia is a large adult bernese mountain dog dog waiting at Dogs Trust Salisbury in Newton Tony.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amelia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amelia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Salisbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amelia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amelia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dogs Trust Salisbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Amelia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amelia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Salisbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amelia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
