Amelia

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy

Little Amelia is a rare and very gentle puppy girl. She had a rough start in life and, during her first days at the clinic, she didn't dare leave her room. The staff is used to rescuing dogs and gave her plenty of time—and gradually, Amelia began exploring her corridor and even ventured into the office, sniffing around the people there. The street dogs she’d been found with had frightened her badly, so at first, when the kennel dogs barked, it was quite unsettling for her. However, Amelia is overcoming her fears and now thoroughly enjoys taking walks around the kennel with the staff and investigating all the exciting smells. When she feels unsure, she seeks comfort from her human companion. She has blossomed into a cuddly little girl who loves cozy moments and happily lies together in the grass for a quiet chat and a bit of scratching. Amelia needed a good mentor, and they found one in Yari. His previous ward, Karina, had moved to Sweden, and now he was ready for his next assignment. Yari provides incredible reassurance for our fearful dogs, and he immediately took on Amelia’s care. She watched him closely, and when she saw how kind he was, she started imitating him and following right behind him. They’re incredibly sweet with each other, and it warms your heart to see their trusting relationship. Amelia has also met some of the kennel’s cats and curiously studied them from a distance. For our lovely Amelia, we’re now looking for a forever home where she’ll be welcomed with open arms. The home should be quietly situated, and its residents should lead a calm lifestyle. If there are children, they should be older. Amelia would appreciate a calm and gentle canine companion who could take over Yari’s role as best friend and source of security—definitely no boisterous dogs, as those had frightened her in the past. You must understand that she’ll need extra time and patience to settle into her new home—and that you’ll always support her whenever she feels uncertain—in new environments and among new people. In the right home, Amelia will become the most wonderful companion you could ever have. Background: Thankfully, there are private individuals who care deeply.

About Amelia

What life with Amelia looks like

Amelia is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Hundhjälpen in Stockholm.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amelia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amelia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundhjälpen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amelia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amelia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundhjälpen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amelia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amelia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundhjälpen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amelia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
