Adopt Amelie

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 9 years

EKH Amelie: All the bad has its good! After Amelie was presented at our veterinary practice at Schloßmühle due to a changed eye, it quickly became clear that our hedgehog will also become a pirate bride. She waited several years with us for her human. She allowed two meters, preferring to observe everything from a distance. In the practice, she found her soulmate. From the attending veterinarian, Frau Brix, she allowed herself to be taken out of the box, the stitches on the eye were removed and treated. We almost fell off our chairs after this information... of course, the pirate bride did not return to us, but directly in February 2017 to her own new veterinarian... we call that retirement planning! ……………………………………………………………………………………………………… My name is Amelie. I am female, neutered and born around 2002. I have been waiting for a new home since July 2014. This is what my caretakers say about me: Amelie came to us through an authority, the feeding station in the village was no longer desired. Fortunately, the woman who had been feeding her agreed to contribute a small fee. Amelie is not necessarily what our visitors would call very pretty. Unfortunately, she has not taken care of her fur, so as it gets warmer, we will have to make our hedgehog into a before-and-after candidate in collaboration with our veterinarian. Unfortunately, Amelie is very shy and mistrustful, and we are happy that she now stays relaxed when visitors or staff enter the room. She gets along well with her fellow animals, but does not necessarily need companions in her new home. For Amelie, we wish owners with cat experience and patience, naturally in a rather quiet household. A later free run would be nice, but it's not a requirement if enough space is available. You shouldn't expect cuddle sessions from Amelie; she needs a lot of time, and a food training is definitely beneficial. Whether it will lead to success is currently uncertain; a place where she is cared for and no demands are made on Amelie except maybe mouse catching, would certainly make Amelie happy… eMail:. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations. This cat needs outdoor access.

About Amelie

What life with Amelie looks like

Amelie is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Amelie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Amelie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Amelie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Amelie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Amelie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Amelie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Amelie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
